We live in mountainous forestland at 2500’ elevation and have composted all our scraps (vegetables only) for 26+ years. We have a large compost container plus two rotating tumblers. We have considered buying worms to accelerate the process, but they die in our cold winters so that’s out. We have tried getting our compost to mature, and it takes absolutely forever. We bought this unit a week ago and have used it twice already and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. No! It is not wasting food. By the time I chopped all the organic veggies for soup, I had onion skins, carrot tops, celery scraps, etc etc etc. coffee grounds with filters, not to mention for once I could add egg shells from breakfast scramble, and the scraps from stewing smoked ham shanks all night — yes, the scraps from eggs and and meat that we NEVER dared put in our regular compost due to possibility of attracting our friends here in the woods called bears. Nothing goes to waste around here. I am thrilled with this ECO5 purchase even though it’s pricy! The results coming out of the process are truly amazing! Unrecognizable from what went in there. This thing it’s just the best kitchen appliance I ever bought is super easy to use and it’s just straight up does what it supposed to do. It actually came in with a cracked filter house from Amazon I called vitamix and the shipped the part to me right away and even included an additional pack of filter pellets this compost will not disappoint you.

Ultimately quite. The refrigerator is noisier. Works great, well worth the price, turns everything to a powder. Takes about 6 hours. Start it before you go to bed, will be done in am.

We liked how it composted but despite the filters, still has a smell. I could’ve moved it to the garage but really am looking for something in the kitchen. Going to try another brand and hope it has better smell filtration.

The media could not be loaded. We have been looking at investing in one of these machines for about a year and we finally bought one after researching these machines. We picked this one because we read reviews and thought with all the good reviews we couldn’t go wrong. We have been so happy with this purchase. We cook at home for most of our meals so we produce a lot of food scraps. Since getting this machine the gnats and smells from having a counter top compost bin are gone! The bin has a charcoal lid to keep the smells to zero and there’s no gnats. We run our machine about every 4 days or so. We add all of our food scraps to the bin and when the bin is full to the full line we run the machine and end up with dirt that goes into our outside compost bin. I would definitely recommend this if your looking for a way to compost and keep the smells and gnats out of your kitchen.

A pot full of veg and fruit trimmings, tea bags, coffee grounds, shrimp shells, popcorn hulls, etc., turned into this fine grained compost in a few hours. Just set the basket full of food scraps in the housing, turn it on and it takes care of itself. Quiet and unobtrusive while processing. The container has a filter in the lid that completely prevents odors as it sits on the kitchen counter collecting material to be processed. This is a simple overnight sensation. It reduces the bulk of food processed by about 90%. The resulting compost is dry and fluffy (as long as you don't add greasy foods or too much doughy or high-liquid-content scraps). The finished compost easily empties into a bucket just waiting for the spring garden. We've always had great success with Vitamix products, and this one did not disappoint.

If you come to my house, you will hear me raving about this product. One of my friends saw it in action and immediately ordered one for herself. I love how I have completely cut down all my food waste down to almost nothing. Almost everything goes into it. I even put the dead leaves from my plants into it. It works so well. I live by myself, but somehow I find that I am running this machine nearly every other day. I do eat a lot of fruits and veggies, so I have a lot of skins, pits, and other non-edible organic materials to dump in the machine. The "compost" that comes out, gets dumped into a bin with soil to further break down a bit more and then can be used on plants. It's amazing!It's a bit of an investment, but it's totally worth it. My energy bill has not really gone up from running it. It does take around 6-8 hours to run. I run it usually over night when energy consumption is lower.I keep the scrap bin in the kitchen and the machine in another part of my house on the floor.
