When Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) and his mother (Taraji P. Henson) move from Detroit to China, Dre feels lost in a world very different from what he knows. Bullied and beaten up by some fellow students in his school, Dre is rescued by his apartment building’s handyman, Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), a man who is mourning a devastating loss. Mr. Han takes pity on Dre and agrees to teach him kung fu to defend himself. Training together, teacher and student learn to trust each other, and ultimately form a friendship that heals them both.

Three words: BRIL-LI-ENT!
I grew up watching the original Karate Kid movies and they have been a huge part of my upbringing, due to my dad's encouraging me to take lessons from an early age. This film brought back so many fond memories from my karate years and its made me want to take it up again. It is just an incredible underdog story that moves you and makes you believe in the characters. Young Jaden Smith is a star to watch out for in the future and it looks bright for him. Jackie Chan gives the performance of his career and he has always been great to watch over the years. This film will warm your heart, open your mind and make you cheer with weep with happy tears because it is one of the best feel-good movies I have ever seen.

Bargain Bluray
At the current price this Bluray is worth buying. This film is not as good as the original but has some good moments.Jaden Smith suits the role well, like his dad he is a very good actor and has a way of getting the audience "on his side".Unlike Ralph Macchio, Jaden Smith is much smaller then the bullies of the movie and will have you rooting for him the whole way.Jackie Chan does not have his usual flair instead plays a more calm quiet role. Its a nice change to see Jackie in a role like this and he pulls of the role as a teacher well.little gripe, its not Karate. The film is set in China and Dre (Jaden Smith) is taught Kung Fu.The original films were fantastic and having watched them its always in the back of your mind. You will notice the similarities from the other movies. If you have not seen the classics then this is worth buying and at this price is great value. This will definitely appeal to the younger generation, there is not much violence so is a film for the family.

Predictable
The funny thing about this film is that it's at points terrific and other points incredibly dull. The martial arts are fantastic and Jackie Chan finally gets a role where he is able to act. Jaden Smith does a decent job given the material, unfortunately he is hampered by a screenwriter that has no idea how kids actually interact. There are moments where you will cringe in a way that you haven't since 'The Office'. Certain scenes especially the journeying kind seem to be filled with inane blathering for no explicable reason, aside from the writer being afraid of silence. However in all seriousness despite the predictable nature of the film, and the stock characters, it does hit the emotional notes very well, and it's here that Smith excels. The interaction between Chan and Smith is where the film lives or dies and I'm happy to say their relationship is believable and at times touching. It's overlong and exceedingly dull at times, but overall I think it's worth a watch, especially for the price.
