Fantastic book
Perfect grammar book for beginners, you need to use it alongside other things in order to really learn French i.e. videos, podcasts, audiobooks etc , especially to get the pronunciation correct but for grammar and building my vocabulary this book has been super useful. By working my way through it slowly and making sure I understand every point I feel I have developed a decent knowledge of the language so far. Exactly what I was looking for.

Not a fun book, but a very good book overall
UPDATE: now i really like the book! what i wrote in my original review still holds... BUT now i also think: the book is concise, it explains well, everything important is there, the structure is logical and easy to follow.verdict: if you are a beginner, it will be hard work with this book. it is dry, it's full on, there are no pictures in it, it's black and white, etc. in sum there is nothing fun about this book. but it is a very good book nevertheless and if you clear the initial hurdles, you will appreciate its no-nonsense approach. i am happy i bought it and i recommend it, it is a must (but maybe not the only...) french grammar book.ORIGINAL REVIEW: i don't like it. first off, pronunciation: the book does give for each sound a lame 'phonetic attempt', but this often does not help you pronounce the sound at all and/or correspond to the real sound (as i learnt it from my french girlfriend), so this guidance is more confusing than helpful. i have no idea why this book does not apply the most sensible tactic of many language books: give an english word as an example where the same sound appears (e.g. for eau, 'a' in water)! this is even more of an acute problem, given that this book does not come with any audio supplement. how on earth can i self-teach myself french then if i am left without any help in pronunciation?!the book appears very thorough. this has an obvious advantage, but it also greatly discourages the learner... do i really want to be flooded with all the exceptions from the first pages on?!it appears to me that this book can be a good grammar book, but definitely not a self teaching material.

A beginners bible
I have the kindle edition of this book and i love it. I have been studying for a while and have read and worked through many books which very often offer over complicated explanantions for grammar rules etc. This book takes a simple approach and also contains a good number of modern words and phrases. I love it and read it everyday. the exercises are excellent and i would recommend it to any beginner.

Not for someone that wants to learn from zero . I should Say probably for begginer to medium
It s a good book overall but you should keep in mind that is for someone that already knows or have a clue about french vocabulary and verbs . If you are a begginer and learn know it s not the best option , it s a Little bit too hard to understand all the exercises in the book. If you already have a clue or you learned it in the past and you want to practice again with yourself then it s a good option

Perfect, No Complaints
Starts at the basics and thus is suitable for absolute beginners who know nothing about French. It goes into detail about grammar and technicalities which is useful to know when applying it to words in the exercises or words outside of the book. It is not hard to follow at all

A very good book and certainly a useful addition to the language ...
A very good book and certainly a useful addition to the language learning arsenal. I do think though this is one book that would actually benefit from having an audio CD component, if only for the first few chapters.
