you done good girl, your who dunnit and how they did ...
you done good girl, your who dunnit and how they did it kept me reading all week end. I can still see Mrs Watts as a 2nd grader in the class next door but never knowing what this strong woman was living thru during those days. I wished I had been older so I could have been there as an older observer. You help me to understand what happened then and why they got away with murder. You brought a real story to life for lots of us and we thank you for your fact gathering, connecting lots of dots from people who knew something but never got connected until you came along. You told the story well and you managed even to pay tribute to all those who help you even if they didn't think they help at all. I currently live a a one party county and the similarities of Darlington politicks and people are so real but its changing just as Darlington did. How I wished some of the people who have gone to their next adventure, hot or cold, had seen your work. A good read for anyone especially if you want to see how a clear and observant talented writer can bring justice to a horrible crime and injustice from the 50's.

OMG!! Wow! Should be made into a movie!!!
I originally started reading this book because one of the accused men was my 2x great uncle. I've been hearing some vague stories among family for years. I'd always wanted to know what REALLY happened and who it happened to, and more importantly, WHY? Most of my family who may have known the truth have passed on. THEN, My mom found this book! I was so excited that I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. Boy, this book has not disappointed me either! I'm finding out what happened and much more. This book is riveting and horrifying at the same time. Ms. Spears did an outstanding job! One of the BEST books I've ever read! I highly recommend reading this book, ESPECIALLY IF YOU'RE FROM THE PEE DEE!

I grew up in Darlington county and was in grammar school when this occurred. In fact the murder took place a few miles north of where I grew up. I remember my daddy and other men talking about the murder, and what I remembered from those discussions was in line with what Ms. Spears wrote in her book. Brought back a lot of memories.Jimmy BradshawSumter, SC

Darlington County Little Chicago
The detail in this book takes you to a place and time that was known about, but never spoken about. Little Chicago as this area was known was brought to life. and you can see how it earned its name. I was told when I was a boy that you could commit murder and get away with it so long as Spot Mozingo was representing you. This turned out to be true. in the case of a shooting on our farm, in the middle 60's. but that is another story. GREAT BOOK!

Very Interesting
I really enjoyed this book. I grew up in Darlington, and Red Watts’ wife was my 2nd grade teacher. I recognized so many names of people. Thanks to Ms. Spears for writing this book.

Hard to put down once you start reading.
This is a great book. I had heard bits and pieces of this story all my life. It all happened where I grew up. Congratulations to M B Spears for her outstanding research and for writing a truly great book.
