Great Sweet Smell. Has Different Results Based on Dampness of Hair.
This review is for the Matte Product. The smell? Its sweet. It reminds me of two things. 1. Orange Julius (if you know what that is) 2. Peach Flavored Hi-Chew Candy. In either case, the smell is sweet, but not overpowering. Hair Dough "Pomade" does NOT smell like the "Matte" product. The pomade is your typical "I just shook my grandpa's hand as his old spice after shave now lingers all over me" smell. This "Matte" is a much cleaner, crisper, sweet smell. I like it, but if you want the typical "spice" that most male products have, go with the pomades in the line. Applying it to different levels of hair dampness, WILL affect the results. Depending on your hair type, you need to experiment. Trying to apply this product to dry hair is a glutton for punishment. It does not spread well and you will pull your hair to no end. I have short #3 sides and back with about 4-5 inches of long hair up top. I apply it out of the shower to damp hair, not soaking wet. I will then wet my hand, shake off the excess and apply about a quarter sized dollop to my palm. Rub your hands together until it is warm and there is an even white haze on your hands. I then run my fingers through my hair making sure to get it everywhere and focus primarily on the long front and roots of the front. I have to rub my hands together two to three times while applying to re-spread the product evenly. It may not seem like it is coming off your hands, but be patient and keep running your hands through your hair until it is all gone. Your hair should be pretty stiff. If it is too loose and without hold, either you did not use enough product or your hair was too wet. Again, you need to experiment. I then use a brush to get the hair all in one direction. I do not recommend a comb with this stuff. I would recommend a hair brush with bristles. Even then it will be be hard to comb through as this stuff really thickens and locks up the hair. I then shape the hair to my styling. This stuff holds all day and has no shine. It is stiff, but not overly stiff like gels. If I don't touch my hair, it will stay put from 7am to 7pm. Running your hands through your hair is not possible without breaking the hold and style and looking like a porcupine. However, getting your hands wet and slightly dampening the hair, will allow you to re-style it. I hated this stuff when I first got it, but I stuck with it and tried a bunch of different combos. I now think it is one of my favorites for matte hair. When I want shiny hair, I go with their pomade although I dislike the spice smell. Bottom line, you need to experiment with it until you find that sweet spot. I have tried Hanz de Fuko, Reuzel, Fiber Creams, etc, etc. This one by far needs the most experimentation for your hair type and dampness.

Great product
genuinely the only product that keeps my hair styled all day and doesn't go flat

Strong smell, but good hold
The smell on this one is very fruity and pungent. Kind of reminds me of axe a little bit. I applied it to my very fine, but full, head of hair and it had great hold. So great that I couldn't even really run my hand through it hours later, with a slight bit of stickiness to boot. That bothered me a little. It's less workable so once your hair is styled, it stays that way until wind slightly shifts it out of place (but not totally messing it up). It is matte like it says. It's easy to spread, but also you need to make sure you rub all the little lumps out before you apply to your hair. I applied it to dry hair and it was fine. I wear a shorter faux hawk style, so pushed up in the front a little. I'm keeping this as my back up product as I prefer Hair Dough Firm Hold Pomade better. That one has a similar hold (it's more workable after styling, therefore there is a greater chance of your hair falling but honestly, it's pretty amazing hold for a pomade), is even easier to spread, but produces a little bit of shine. I also like the smell of the pomade better than the clay.

Impressive
Ive tried a lot of hair products. This is one of the best. It has great hold, and the price to volume ratio is great. You only need a little bit as well. Im thinking of just getting this hair product for now on because you get so much for a fair price, and it really works very well.

Good stuff, smells quite nice
I'm a guy who tends to let his hair get a bit long and takes too long between haircuts. I have fine, dirty blonde hair that gets REALLY fluffy after washing and gets REALLY flat and oily after a day or so. If I don't have something in it to keep it in place it'll just turn into a giant puffball on top of my head. I decided to give this Hair Dough a try just to change things up and see what else is out there. It's a very thick, tacky white cream with a sweet, almost fruity (but still masculine) scent. It spreads reasonably well but if you aren't careful and get too much in one spot it'll take some time and maybe a comb to get it to spread out. I always apply it to slightly damp hair which I think helps a bit. It holds very well and will last a couple days if you don't wash your hair daily. It isn't greasy, it isn't oily, it isn't shiny, and it doesn't leave your hair crunchy or overly stiff. It works, it's reasonably priced, it smells pretty good, and I can't make any complains about it. Give it a try.

Finally a styling product that actually holds ALL DAY
Ive tried a handful of products for my hair. I was using a mix of American Crew and Fix Your Lid fibres, but they always seemed too greasy and never held well enough for the whole day. I often found myself reapplying after 4 hours. This stuff is literally hair glue. Apply it and forget it. It is thick and sticky, but NOT greasy. I am able to spike my hair (~2") in the front with ease. With hair dry, I comb some water through it, then use about a nickel sized amount at most, rubbing into my fingers until warm and tacky. If hair gets difficult to style, I just wet my fingers a little bit and comb them through my hair. Once styled, my hair looks matte and natural. This is huge plus for me since I have blonde hair, doesn't take much to look greasy. Id highly recommend this product, and will definitely buy again.

Great hold, but causes the hair to dry out extremely.
I bought this product twice because I loved the way it held my hair and it smelt great. But I started to notice my hair extremely thinning and almost looked like I was balding in the mirror after a few months. I didn’t put the two together, I just assumed I’m 35 and now I’m starting the balding process lol. I stopped using it for 2-3 weeks because I could only pinpoint to when I started to use this product to when I started to notice the change in my hair. After 3 weeks of not using it, I noticed my hair back to normal and not so dried out.
