Good gardening in pots with succulents book!
This is an excellent book on showcasing succulents. The photography alone is worth the price of the book. I understand the author takes the photos herself. Having said that, this isn't a how to book; it's more about setting up gardens, primarily in pots but also has some emphasis on outdoor gardens. There is a section on care and lists in the back of which succulents need sun or will survive in less light, etc.Ms. Baldwin has written many books on succulents and I'm hard pressed to decide which to buy next. I found one here at Amazon a couple day ago by her that is more about care of succulents so perhaps I'll get it next. I understand her fascination with succulents as they come in so many different shapes, sizes and even some colors such as blue. Many will bloom. They are not water hogs so they will mind their own business if one travels for a week and leaves them to their own devices. Overwatering is the worst thing one can do to a succulent or cactus. Great book.

Trust Me, Buy the Hard Copy
This is an awesome book on container gardening. Ms. Baldwin accepted the challenge of demystifying succulents and how to grow them. And she did a wonderful job!She starts off by pairing plants with various pot types and styles. From there she talks about the many types of succulents along with some companion plants to consider. At the same time, you can see colorful photos with crisp detail. If you are a visual person like me, I can't say enough good things about the importance of well-developed pictures. She talks about displaying your plants, the proper care and, lastly, she gives you some wonderful plant lists. If you are ever considering growing this family of plants, I would tell you to consider investing in the hard copy. It is money well-spent; you will get much use from this book.

Disappointed in the book.
Very disappointed in this book. The photos are great and it is informative, however, it does not give photos of succulents with names on the side of the photo so you know what the succulent is. When you buy a succulent all it says is succulent. I would like to know the name of the succulent I have in my pots and how tall it will be or short or wide, etc. Will be looking for a better book.

Great resource!
Would've given it 5 stars, but the cover of the book was beat up looking for being brand new, it's flimsy and not a good type of cover for a "gardening" book, that you will use as a frequent resource and move around alot. I have not even gotten thru the whole book and moved it to different places in my house to read it and learn, not good, might remove it altogether, maybe stick it inside of the cover instead!

nice book
This book is beautiful to look at. Its primary purpose is to show you how to arrange succulents in containers. There is one chapter that deals with the planting and care of succulents, which is more what I was looking for. I will probably sell it back.

Fantastic ideas for the home garden
Debra Lee Baldwin is an author with an eye for color and arranging succulents in the home garden. She lends her vast knowledge of succulents and lends an artistic eye to her compositions that both inspire and make you understand the simplicity of organizing shapes and colors with nature. Her choice of plants is excellent for the Southern California plant enthusiast who will likely be familiar with most of her choices. She reveals the beauty of succulents when paired with colorful planters and pots of all shapes and sizes. Designing with Succulents is another book by the author that I would recommend. Both books are recommended for the home garden enthusiast who is looking to beatify their home environment.

LOTS of INFORMATION
Whether you are new to succulents or want to create eye catching displays this book is full of practical information and profusely illustrated. This is "the" succulent lady with more books and plenty of YouTube demos.

WORTH YOUR MONEY
The first thing to be aware of is that the author gardens in Southern California; so for the less the thermally blessed, you will need a greenhouse or conservatory to implement many of the suggestions herein. The second thing to be aware of - and the subtitle, "design eye-catching displays..." gives the clue - is that this book is aimed principally at garden and interior designers, whether pro or hobbyist, and flower arrangers. The illustration of Christmas tree ornaments stuck on the spikes of Aloes on page 190 hints that it's not perhaps the ordinary get-your-hands-dirty British gardener who is intended as the prime audience. That said, it's a book I thoroughly enjoyed. I do have a greenhouse, and I have not previously explored succulents as potential ornaments for it; but a gift of several Aeoniums (how many other plants have all the vowels in their name ?) prompted me to explore further; and the book contains the vital information, unknown to me hitherto, that this species grows in the winter and is dormant in summer. So not lacking in practical growing advice, either. In fact, the 20 pages on planting, care and propagation provide an excellent growing primer for those starting out; and there's even a section on succulent bonsai, which offer amazingly decorative possibilities - and they aren't all that slow growing, either. The oddball ideas - like the aforementioned Christmas tree ornaments, and small model figures stuck to leaves - are mercifully rare, and confined to the section entitled "creative designs and displays", many others of which even this old grubby-fingered gardener found extremely attractive; especially so in the case of the 5ft x 7ft6in hanging "picture" of growing sempervivums . All in all, it's an excellent practical guide to a hugely variable and under-exploited category of ornamentals. It's a typical Timber Press product, nicely bound and jacketed, stuffed with expert photos on every page, printed on quality paper and with a very comprehensive index, and a useful bibliography. The fact that by 2013 it had been reprinted 13 times since its first publication in 2010 surely testifies to its worth.

Inspiring, visual, professional - and a dream of California climates for British gardeners.. ;)
Bought this as i've started collecting and growing small succulents and recently moved to a house with a garden. The book is very inspirational and obviously written by a professional, high-end garden designer - note though - she's based in California which, if you like me reside in England, means this book is more of an inspiration of how to think in a new way when arranging plants than ever hoping to grow massive Agave plants.... Really love this book though - it has opened my eyes up to garden - and indoor potted plant - design.

Stunning ideas and pictures
This book is crammed full of wonderful photographs of succulents planted to perfection - in every conceivable combination of colour, texture and size. The author has a brilliant eye for designing her own plantings and for appreciating the ideas of others. I bought it for an elderly, succulent-loving, relative but I liked it so much I ordered another for myself and it's got me hooked. Of course it is written with the American climate mainly in mind but there's a plant list for a range of climates. Wonderful ideas!

Another excellent book by Debra Lee Baldwin to assist succulent enthusiasts ...
Another excellent book by Debra Lee Baldwin to assist succulent enthusiasts in the design of their garden and containers. Using the authors knowledge, enabled me to use a non functional two tier fountain as a planter and the information provided on pages 152-154 certainly assisted in the layout. If you are an amateur gardener like myself trying to establish a succulent garden, this book is a great reference.
