Red or Blue, Who Really Knew - Now I DO - Unit Works Just Fine
After having read many of the reviews I figured that I knew which one to buy so I got one of the "Red" units and created a 12 gauge solar wire harness (Picture 2) to control an 80 watt solar powered fan (Picture 4) in the garage attic. I used electrical tape to hold the base mount to a truss purlin (I forgot to take the screw and driver up with me). After hooking everything up I discovered that the Red unit worked exactly opposite of what I needed, so back online and get a "Blue" one in to replace it. I was able to adjust the Red unit to keep the fan running during daylight which was fine until the replacement came.I took the replacement "Blue" unit up in the morning since temps around here have been reaching over 100 almost every day. I swapped the units out and the fan started right up (Picture 1). I'd adjusted the unit in the house by turning the dial from the lowest setting until it clicked (turned on) at the inside house temp of 74. At this setting, during the winter the fan won't run until the temp is around or above 75.I'd found instructions on the inside of the box in print that was so small I had to magnify it to read. The Blue unit came with printed instructions which I scanned and photo-shopped to create a simplified instruction set for others (Picture 3). The "a" unit is the Red one and has "Normally Closed" contacts, meaning the circuit is closed or "ON" until the temperature rises to the setting of the control dial. This equates to letting my fan run until the temperature goes above the dial setting. The "b" unit is the Blue one and has "Normally Open" contacts, meaning the circuit is open or "OFF" until the temperature rises to the setting of the control dial. This means my fan won't turn on until the temp comes up to the dial setting.Despite many years of doing electrical work there's something about thermostat setting that confuses me and according to the reviews, a lot of others. I have to assume that the contact types for Red and Blue are what others have gotten, so for basic low power circuits IMHO these little units should work just fine. For me the easiest way to remember the difference for the "Load" or in my case the fan is: RED = Normally Closed = not Off until activated BLUE = Normally Open = not ON until activated

VERY basic thermostat.
Cute little thermostat but the specs given are not accurate. Setting this thermostat is hit and miss, as the dial doesn't match the output. Also, the specs claim a range of 0 to 60 degrees. I wanted to use this to keep plants from freezing and, wanted to set it to 40 degrees Fahrenheit, (4.5 degrees Celsius). With the thermostat set to zero, it is regulating the temperature at 45 degrees F., (7.2 degrees C.),.Hysteresis, (difference between high and low switching points), is about two degrees - unlike the 15 degrees reported in another review.

Great product
Works excellent using it to cool variable frequency drive cooling fan. I read one review saying it was a heating instead of cooling. Looks like the cool is blue and heat is read so make sure you get proper one for your application.

Doesn’t work as advertised- blue and red work the same!
First I bought the ‘red’ model on the assumption it was to turn the heat on (close the switch) when the temperature falls below the set temperature. After it arrived and I tested it, it turned out to work in just the opposite manner. After reading some of the reviews I decided to order the ‘blue’ device. Upon arrival I tested it and found out it worked the same way! They both stay connected at the set temperature and above!!I ended up getting a thermostat from the local Home Depot. It’s bigger and better readable.

Might as well buy a timer.
I have been trying to set it up for a week to 25 C (around 70 F) but it has never switched on or off automatically. My goal was to control a fan where temperatures range between 58 and 90. No dice.

Not as described, don't waste your time or money with this one...
The "blue" ordered did not close on temperature rise, it closed on fall. I researched many reviews and the listing to insure my choice was for close on rise which ended up being wasted time and money.
