Great Lock
I've used this on two homes. Perfect for everyone in the family to get in without worrying about lost keys. We're in and out a lot... walking the dogs, different work schedules, etc. We really only use the front door. The battery lasted over two years with all that use. You need a screwdriver to change the battery, but it is pretty easy. Fairly simple to install. I think I could even be re-keyed to match other locks in the house. Note: this does not work with your phone/wifi. It is keypad or physical key only... which is what we were looking for.

works well, useful, cheap finish
I replaced a Schlage keyed deadbolt with this combination item. It works very well. A combination lock allows my kids to open the door without having to keep a key. While I used to be "latch key kid" myself, my own kids are never home alone. Nevertheless, I might send them to the door with bags/groceries etc. while I'm still at the car. When we come back from walking the dog, they can open the door for me. I have confidence knowing they'll never be locked out. A combination lock means my wife and I don't have to carry keys. My wife has an electronic fob for her car, and my car uses a switch and starter button (old school). Eliminating the house key means no more keys at all. Brass metal keys, including Schlage and Kwikset have too much toxic lead in them. So much that they've been sued by State's governments but they are unlikely to change. Not having to handle a key reduces exposure to lead. The lock functions well. It was easy to install (to replace existing deadbolt) and the result was the cylinder turns easily, it fits properly, and works smoothly. Locking and unlocking from inside is just a turn of the large lever. Locking from outside involves pushing the top "Schlage" button and turning the knob to lock the deadbolt. Unlocking from outside, you can either enter the 4 digit combo into the keypad and turn the knob, or you can press the Schlage button to illuminate the keypad and then enter the combo and turn the knob. A 4 digit combo is quick and secure enough for the level of security this whole product is intended for. It provides for more than 3000 possible combinations, so a brute force attack on the combination is not as likely as a brute force attack on the door jamb or window. This is not a high security product, as it is intended for doors that can be kicked in, breached with a ram, or bypassed. The buttons appear to be durable and not likely to soon reveal discrepancies in use, but the combination can be changed easily to level the use of different buttons. The lock also supports multiple combinations, and therefore temporary combinations. I looked at alternatives, but determined this simple option is best. I imagine future cars (and houses) will have two-factor authentication to use -- you'll need to have something (probably a digital certificate with private key on your smartphone device) and to know something (a PIN), but you'll probably have an (slightly less secure) option to pre-enter or save the PIN so that you'll be able to open the door or use the car just by being near it. This combination lock won't unlock just because you're nearby, but it is a pretty easy PIN to enter. I looked at alternatives that include Bluetooth or Wifi connectivity, but they all involved a proprietary service with subscription or a device that was too expensive and unproven. I don't have long term results for this product yet, but expect it will fair well for several years to come. The brushed nickel finish on my Schlage door set failed with peeling varnish after about 5 years. I would have thought it would be nickel plated, but apparently they coat it in some kind of plastic varnish and it comes off. Because of that, I also doubt this combo deadbolt product is really brushed nickel, but instead it is probably the same fake painted-on finish. Edit: It's 2 years later and this lock continues to work brilliantly. I bought another for the door between the garage and house. Before I bought the second, I looked into "smart" locks and what's available today. The best feature they offer is automatic locking/relocking so you don't have to remember to lock the door on the way out -- but any lock that uses a motor to move the deadbolt is going to run the battery down faster and will depend on good alignment of the bolt with the strikeplate. My door is not misaligned, but the reality is that changing temperature and humidity causes the door frame to move. I think I prefer to use a little muscle and lock the door myself rather than depending on Alexa to do it for me. With this lock, I don't even need to bother with a key to lock or unlock it. It's great.

Keyless Entry. Easy install! Looks great! Works great!
We had a battery operated door lock we had that actually unlocked the door when you put in the code suddenly quit working? We checked around with a locksmith to see if ut could be fixed. Nope. He advised us to look at the door locks that you put in your code and then you turn the door lock. Lots less to go wrong with these door locks. So we bought the same brand door lock but not the fully automatic. We got the semi automatic I guess you could say! It was super easy to install. The it fit exactly where our old had been. So we didn’t need to drill any new holes. And it is just as easy to use! Push the Schlage button, enter your code, turn the deadbolt, open the door!

READ THIS REVIEW - NEW MODELS ARE GARBAGE
Revised: 2/9/21 I just downgraded stars from 2 to 1. We just had our 3rd one of these fail in the past 4 weeks. Same issue every time with the spinning deadbolt knob not catching. ------ I am real estate professional. I personally own literally 20+ of this model lock. I manage other properties with about 10-15 more. These USED to be the gold standard. Sadly, they are no longer worth their weight in paper, and Schlage (Allegion - parent company) knows it. I just replaced a couple that lasted ~4-5 years - I am more than happy with that lifespan. Some of these replacements lasted less than 4 weeks each, 1 didn't work out of the box. In fact, I am averaging about a 50% fail rate on all new BE365's - that's a sample size of 8. On the duds, the electronics still work, but the deadbolt will spin and never actually catch the lock to unlock. It just spins forever. Now in the past, Schlage's customer service has been top-notch. So I gave them a call. I asked what changed - a redesign or a new manufacturing plant? Let's solve this problem together, right? I loved their product, and I just want them to work. Well, they declined to tell me. But the CS Rep 100% knew that there is a huge problem that Schlage does not want to admit. They agreed to send me replacements for 3 of the locks (the 4th I had already returned to Home Depot). The advice was to install a piece of felt behind the lock to help protect from the cold. What? Really? I'm in the deep south - it's not that cold - and why aren't they supplying said pieces of felt if they know it is an issue?? 2 weeks later, no replacements received. I emailed Schlage and 24 hours later, they claim I need to re-send the serial codes (already done once and they acknowledged receipt at that time) and provide additional information. Wow. I've spent countless hours already with this, not to mention client lock-outs have costed me $100's, if not $1,000's, and I still have broken locks. So, in summation, what used to be a 5-star product is now a 1-star product. What used to be 5-star customer service is now 1-star customer service. I'll gladly update this review if there a reason to do so.

Clear instructions for installation and use
I wanted a way for my kids to be able to get into the house without a key. I also liked the idea of being able to enjoy my outdoor exercises without having to carry a key with me. After reading about several keypad deadbolts, I settled on this one. The all-metal piece for the side that is on the inside of the door, the shapely design, as well as the good reviews, are what helped me make the decision. I also like that it uses one long-lasting 9V battery, instead of several AA batteries like some of the competitors' options. I am a woman with a fair amount of basic handy skills. I installed this keypad myself in about 30 minutes, which included removing the previous lock and bolt that had been installed by our homebuilder. The directions and diagrams were clear and easy to follow. I had no problems with any of the installation steps. I honestly thought it was going to be more complicated than it turned out to be. The code instructions were also easy to follow. The prompts are not rushed, I have plenty of time to check the directions to find the next step I need to complete and then enter it. My kids understood the directions I gave for how to use this right away. The directions say the lights give a signal when the battery is running low. I'll be watching for that, thankful that it won't just die without warning. To change the battery, you must remove the inside door latch panel by removing 2 screws - fairly easy to do, and only takes a few minutes. One drawback - I had not counted on the fact that the outside thumbturn (the portion which you turn after entering your code, as well as insert your key into if you must use a key) sticks out from the door about 1" farther than my previous lock. This puts it where it bumps right into the center of the screen door handle. In order to be able to close and latch both doors, we have to rotate the outside thumbturn to be in about the 2 o'clock/8 o'clock position, rather than perpendicular, so that it skims over the screen door handle. This is not a big deal, because once the door is locked the outside thumbturn spins freely, but certainly worth noting. Also, the inside thumbturn does not sit perpendicular when locked/horizontal when unlocked. All my other locks sit this way, so that is what I look for when I'm glancing around to check to be sure doors are locked before bed or before leaving. Rather, the inside thumbturn sits at a 45° angle to the right or to the left, depending on if it is locked or unlocked. I'll get used to it, it's just different. The Satin Nickel finish nicely matched the same finish on my existing door handle, which is about 4 years old. I nicked a small area with the screwdriver while installing, but the spot buffed out easily, looking smooth and nice again.

Almost Gave Up
When I ordered my first Keyless Entry Code it was used, so I returned the package and was immediately sent out a replacement on the next business day. I didn’t do the set up the same day until yesterday, which was 2 to 3 days later, however, the key knob kept turning with the key and would did not unlock or lock , and I followed the example to a T and it still did not work. I’ve then proceeded to do a second return, and then I got a message that says “ How can we make this right,” so there were options recommended to contact support, watch a video, and etc) so I chose to watch the video. I decided to uninstall and start over by following the video and it turned out that I indeed had missed a step. After the set-up was completed, and I created my own personal Keyless Entry Code the door would not lock after entering the code, but the code was working. To my surprise, it turned out that when the door tried to lock after entering the code, the lock was hidden against the plate on the side of the door post when you lock your door so now I have to get someone to come in to fix that issue, but other than that if you follow the video, everything will work out fine. I am 100% satisfied with the results that I took the time to watch the video carefully to complete the installation. I’m glad that I did not give up and I kept trying and it was worth the trouble. 👍🏾👍🏾 that Plate was the problem and this was caused after I had my front door replaced years ago with a new door, so the issue was on my end. However, my experience was still amazing to me because I found out what the exact problem was , it was worth watching the video examining on my end to figure out what the exact issue was and why the code did not work after I said the code to lock the door. Try resetting the code again and come to realize and after watching the video a few times more , once you enter your four digit pin number that you create for yourself then you have to turn the knob/the key knob after intern your code to lock the door and then you repeat the same steps when unlocking the door. Thank you customer support for providing the video that helps the guide with the installation. To all other customers who had difficulties and was experiencing the same installation issue and thought that the key knob did not work for the key and that it kept on spinning, I just didn’t follow all the instructions until I realize it from watching the video provided by Support. door, my latch kept hidden the area that is supposed to lock into the door hinge when you close the door, that Plate was the problem and this was caused after I had my front door replaced years ago with a new door, so the issue was on my end. Unbeatable in Installation, Quality, and Ease of use.
At the time i bought this i had owned a 'Kwikset featuring SmartKey SmartCode Single Cylinder Electronic Deadbolt, Satin Nickel 909 15 SMT CP' for 1 years time. then decided to change after the mechanism in the kwikset malfunction and Kwiksets replacement unit did not even work on arrival. there is a fundamental flaw in them that is NOT in the Schlage which I will discuss. My first impressions on this deadbolt were the same as my keyed entry lock+ door handle unit that i had bought a year prior. right out of the box, everything was in the box, very detailed instructions for both installation of the deadbolt and operation of the deadbolt and the incredible 'rock solid' feel of the Schlage brand. Installation: Installation is a breeze if you have any experience with door locks or slim to none. even with no experience i would find it strange if someone didn't think that the install process on this deadbolt was easy. If you have no experience, just follow the very detailed instructions that come with it. Took me less than 10 minutes to install. One thing i would note on the installation that i have never seen another deadbolt that i have bought come with was a 'reinforcement' plate for the door frame. it comes with very long screws as well to secure it incredible well into the door frame making it leaps and bounds more difficult for someone to kick in the door. the reinforcement plate i noticed felt like a different type of metal than everything else. Very solid and maybe 2-3 thicker than an average door plate. Operation/Features: Unlike my kwikset unit that i owned that actually operates a small internal motor(the part that is prone to failure on the Kwikset Unit) this Schlage deadbolt has a 'freespinning' lock unless the lock is 'engaged' in which case the 'freespinning' lock actually becomes like a 'handle' that you manually turn. the lock is engaged always from the manual switch from the back(what would be the inside of the home or building) or while it is unlocked and you hit the 'Schlage' button on the front of the unit for 5 seconds while the light is blinking. while the light blinks the lock is engaged and you turn with your hand from the outside to lock. To unlock from the outside is just as easy, enter your 4 digit code, the Schlage light will blink yellow for 5 seconds and your lock will rotate like a handle when you turn it to unlock your door. Really couldn't get easier operation than this without an automatic electric motor. (but again, like in the Kwikset which has this, it is prone to failure) Of course another feature on the lock, keyed backup in case the battery dies before you can replace it. Keypad: The keypad is very bright when you press the Schlage button as it illuminates to a very bright blue. Enter code and presto, access to whatever lies behind the door with a flick of the wrist. I will not go into the operation on how to program the keypad as it is very straightforward and simple if you follow the manufacturers instructions on how to add/remove codes and enter a few different modes. Battery: My lock came with a 9v Duracell (shocking not a Chinese off brand battery?!) and the biggest difference i can note between this Schlage lock and my keypad+door handle Schlage is the battery compartment is WAY easier to get to. on the keypad + door handle unit, you must remove the entire lock from the door in order to access the battery compartment to change and the battery is on the outside of the unit(closer to the elements reduces battery life). On the Deadbolt however, the compartment is accessed by just removing the two back screws of the unit and removing this 'cover' plate. the battery is right there, the rest of the lock stays intact and the compartment is on the INSIDE of the door, away from the elements to help preserve the battery life. Final Thoughts: Just like my other Schlage unit, i am EXTREMELY satisfied with both operation, instructions, ease of use and Quality of this product. I really have no complaints. I will definitely be a repeat customer if i keep getting these fantastically designed and made locks.

Great lock and no more fear of being locked out
Easy to install and easy to set up. Everyone can make up their own 4 digit code that they’ll remember. No more lost or forgotten keys. Takes a little getting used to putting in the code and getting it unlocked before it times out but once you get the hang of it it’s easy to use. Schlage is a good brand and the lock works smoothly. Am very happy with it. Wish I’d done it sooner
