Q: Why are there people saying they don't fit the 55 gallon cans? Also are they 3 mil or not, it seems that is questionable too?

I measured the plastic thickness and it is .003" thick, which is 3 mils. The top of the bag is 36" across when laying flat so there is 72" of bag material to go around the circumference of your trash barrel or can. I have a 32 gallon Rubbermaid Brute trash container that "looks" like a 55 gallon trash can but is obviously smaller. The distance across the top of that trash can is 21.5" which means the distance around the top of the trash can, for the trash bag is about 67.5". That means these particular bags I received fit the Brute 32 gallon trash can very well with a little extra in diameter, and quite a bit in depth, which I like so it can be filled up on trash day and tied off. The 36" wide top of the bag means it would just barely fit a ROUND trash barrel that is 22.9" inches in diameter across the top of the can opening. At that diameter it would take effort to get it on and may need a bit of stretching, which I wouldn't recommend. If it is any larger than that, and round, it won't fit. From my experience and measurements, these are great for the Brute 32 gallon trash cans, although plenty taller and would not comfortably fit anything more than about an inch more in diameter, or about 22.5" outside diameter at the top of the can or barrel. If the bags are still 36" across, then measure your round trash barrel or can top to see if it is around 21.5" to 22" across and they will fit.
