Yes you can! Pretty much just use fruit juices/ice cream recipe without milk added, there's some sorbet recipes with the product

Can you pipe soft ice cream into a cone like street vendors with this machine or do you have to scoop it out of the bowl to serve the ice cream?

It's made from silver/grey coloured plastic. If you're thinking of buying one.... Dont! Flimsy plastic paddle doesnt keep the sides clean when churning and the motor is underpowered for the task. The ice cream built up around the sides and the paddle used to bend although after a time the build up was too much and the paddle would stick, oh before it broke. The motor had enough power for that. Mine's went in the bucket and I bought a cuisinart ICE30BCU. Suits me fine. Ok, noisy, but they all seem to be so but it's no noisier than the Kenwood
