Oxford American Desk Dictionary & Thesaurus

In working with my children and all of their technology I have been working to understand the big differences of school in today’s society. Kids are smarter in what they control and operate in modern time, but there is something missing. Now they can just research by asking one of their devices, using and understanding the written word in all its forms is all but foreign. I remembered growing up some of the exercises that I was put through for reading, writing, comprehension and communication. All of them started with a dictionary! Finding words, pronunciation, spellings and how to use them. This is a great reference and tool! My children have been coming to us with their school work and stories! Many great advantages and good grasp of the vast amount of info beyond just definitions.

Good size desk tool. Hard copy printed on quality paper which is well bound. Words are boldly printed with definitions able to be read, with reading glasses for my use. No chemical odors, indicates printed in USA on acid free paper with a copyright of 2010. For those of us “seniors” who find the spelling of words that sometimes “just don’t look right” , this little volume is a helpful reference.

This dictionary did not did not disappoint at all. It's is sturdy and can last a throughout their entire primary, high school and college life.

I have the full sized version of the The New Oxford American Dictionary and obviously, it's too heavy to lug about for school purposes. I purchased the desk version to have handy while I'm studying. At first, I was disappointed with what seemed to be a lack of content. What was actually lacking was my ability to spell. Once I became re-acquainted with using a dictionary again, I found that the Oxford American Desk Dictionary & Thesaurus is quite comprehensive and full of surprises -it contains many words I was certain I'd never find. In the end, I'm very satisfied with this volume. It's handy size and surprising word inclusiveness has made it a valuable tool which I always keep on hand.

I like to break away from my computer from time to time and use a hard copy dictionary. This one is a winner. Lots of great words and definitions. The Thesaurus is complete and helpful.

I've been through 18 dictionaries in the past four decades, but this new Oxford American Dictionary and Thesaurus is by far the easiest to read and a delight to use. The definitions are succinct and easy to understand. The thesaurus is not only a good way to find a useful alternative word, it also helps illuminate the defined word. I like it so well that I've bought a total of ten copies so far and gave them to my writer friends and several students. So, yes, I highly recommend this dictionary/thesaurus.

It’s very easy to read the print is very clear in the book is not heavy which is definitely a plus. I do recommend it.

I bought this dictionary for school and it's what I was looking for. I am very happy with this purchase. It is worth every cent spent. My boyfriend liked it so much, he purchase one for himself.

Bought this together with the Crossword Solver book as both of mine were falling apart. Book is in excellent condition. The later version is not as good. I'm a very happy bunny!

Excellent dictionary. Thesaurus is a good added value. This dictionary is a precious tool for beginners and more skillful users.

This is a large dictionary, but it does contain many words, particularly of American English usage. It is useful for that purpose.

Best standard of Words used , meticulously phrased definition, best for autodidact and Aficionados , Merriam Webster's and Collins used outdated weird Accented English, USA is the Capital of Earth, better learn with the best, the one and only American Dictionary.
