Does the lid fit snugly?

Yes! I was very pleased to find that the lid on my oil can snaps on, it doesn't move when I pour out the last of the oil!

Is the tree label a paper label or coated?

It is not a paper label it is coated, You cannot take it off

Does this can leak from the bottom?

no. It leaks from the spout. When you pour out oil then tip it back upright a small amount of oil runs down the outside of the spout opening and you have wipe it off each time you use the oil can, or else the oil runs all the way down the outside of the spout and eventually makes a oil spot where the can sits. I should think they could mfg the can where it won't drip. But since it has a malfunction I sent it back.
