No. I am sensitive to foam smells and it was fine for me.

Q: Will this provide support on a raised air bed with no headboard?

Yes, if the bed is up against the wall, if not against the wall, you can purchase a rug anti-slip mat/pad to prevent your pillow from moving around.

Q: How well does this work when putting it between the box spring and mattress to lift of the top of the bed?

I"m not sure because I only use mine on top of the bed, but it is firm. I still dont think it will work in a good enough way because that will be alot of pressure on it.
