I finally got a starter that works with a 350 Vortec, no shims. Just put it in and it starts right up. This is my third brand new starter that I tried. First one I purchased from Summit didn't work. Second one I bought from Amazon came broken up in the box. Took a deep breath and tried Amazon again and it came in great condition. Had no problems.

What I liked about this was that it was way larger than the one taken off my 99 k1500 chevy 5.7liter suv. It seems a lot stronger than the OEM, but it has a slight higher quick pitch sound at turn over that sounds strong when turning the engine flywheel, ha ha no more double start cranks for me to get my engine going. This thing is freaking awesome! It arrived a day early, the price was hella lower than local store prices, and the fit was quick, like less than 30 minutes to drop back in, compared to the OEM coming out. The only thing was the design of my heat shield from the OEM, that it didn't quite fit over the starter but with a little bending of the solenoid shield bracket and it fit right over it with ease even though it is 14 lbs. and trying to hold it with one hand while performing an upside down manual bolt it and alignment was a workout in itself, it was worth it compared to a labor shop rate to do a 15 to 30 minute job. For its size and performance, this thing is hella powerful to start your vehicle. I highly recommend this model, it was a easy decision based in part of the best sellers rank of#65,987 in Automotive (See Top 100 in Automotive) and #146 in Automotive Replacement Starter Starters compared to what else they had out there on the market to this one.

Installed this starter, ACDelco Gold 337-1018, in June 2025 and the starter solenoid no long works (it’s now October 2025). Battery is charged, terminals good, wires are tight, starter relay is good, and I’m only getting a repetitive clicking sound when trying to start my k1500 Suburban. Starter does not engage flywheel. This unit is garbage.

The OEM product arrived a little late on the day promised, but I was notified it would here on the date promised. I installed it on the vehicle the next morning and it worked perfectly. 97 Chevy K1500 5.7 Liter/350. No shims were included in the package and thankfully none were needed.
