very helpful for making specific life improvement plans
I'd recommend this book as quite helpful to self-motivated people who are interested in refining and actuating their life goals. This book clarified understanding my own communication style, and that of those around me. It was revelatory in understanding how to listen more effectively to colleagues and customers. Most of all, I have found the exercises in "well-formed outcome" to be extremely helpful in setting goals and making plans for the next things I want to do in life - basically which revolve around getting better at the things I do. I have spread out sheets of paper across the floor with categories of various self-improvements, and have worked out "well-formed outcomes" for each. It's been great to learn how much of our hopes and dreams can stay stuck as a fond wish, with little between our desire and the ability to carry out our dreams except for doing more comprehensive planning. This has been the first "For Dummies" book I've bought, as I usually start with more specific texts to learn about something, but it was recommended by a friend who has been going through teacher training in NLP. The title is ironic, as the book is premised on how self-talk affects success - nevertheless, the content is very worthwhile.

The first step on a new path
I really enjoyed this book. A few friends recommended it and I have studied other NLP related material in the past. This book spells out a lot of the powerful concepts of NLP, and gives you real lessons that you can use to apply NLP and change your life. And if you don't know what Neuro Linguistic Programming is, this is a great way to find out. Also, If your friends have been bugging you to read "The Secret", but you're turned off by all the spiritual mumbo jumbo. check this book out. Its basically a scientific approach to the reality behind The Secret.

Solid resource, big book and worth the read
A great book to nail down the basics of this huge topic called "neurolinguistics programming." There are so many authors, and so many approaches, and so many techniques to each approach that a book like this must be sufficiently broad to touch on the essentials, and sufficiently deep to allow each topic to make a difference. There is also a number of solid references. I love the analogy of how to try to tackle this gargantuan field of study: the authors say to think of it like a hologram. Order is not as important as mastering each step that you learn at a time and adding that to the depth and breadth of you practice.

A great starter/guide/reference book
This book is a great book to start learning nlp or to further learn or help you better understand. I have plenty of other nlp books but I bought this book because there are some things within nlp that I feel I need to better understand and this book is ideal for that! It's very informative and a great reference book too. I recommend this book.

Very Basic Introduction
NLP is a powerful model of psychology and management, incorporating the subconscious mind, the power in intention, body language, and the spoken word. In this "Dummies" book, you will get a very general overview of NLP - enough to whet the whistle, and a little more. The concepts behind NLP are firmly rooted in the effects of our senses on the subconsious mind. NLP transforms these from a subconsious effect to a conscious one, where the NLP practitioner can influence their own or others behavior and outcomes by utilizing consciously the senses to drive behaviors.Discussing concepts such as anchors, swoosh patterns, and the power of the sopken word, Ready and Burton also provide the reader with simple to follow practical exercises, theory and tools to introduce the reader to NLP concepts and strategies. If you are interested in NLP, this books will give you the basics, and maybe a touch more. For a powerful and effective tool like NLP, however, like any other discipline, the Dummies book will only whet the appetite, not serve as a meal.

Excellent Primer on NLP
There are several editions of this book out there, including an audio book. Forget the rest, this one by Romilla Ready is the one to get. This will open up the world of NLP and isn't one of those books aimed at just "dominating at work" or other nonsense. If you are serious about understanding the inner workings of the human mind, try this edition out.

Salesmen can find this information useful in creating their sales pitch. I find the pyschology information tie-in necessary as a coach. Good read.

GREAT SUMMARY OF NLP - Hardly For Dummies!
This, like all the "For Dummies" Series of books, explains the basic principles of NLP. This is a basic book to "put you on" the subject in no time, with the advantages of having a book to provide a summary of the principles and techniques of NLP and provide a basis for further understanding.
