alpicool update.
Got this in june 2019. We have been using it off and on last year on our RV.. couple week here and there.. Now the end of may 2020 we went fulltime in our RV and this has been in use full time. We use it as extra refrigerator space and for a place to put tall stuff. Be sure to check the reviews for the hidden setting info. https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R3BF0LCRFSOJ0K?ASIN=B073WYS3TR the unit has been sitting on the floor of our RV on the roads of NY, PA, OH, NH (lost 2 hub cap of truck and 2 off RV) so it has been beat around for the past 2.5 months and still keeps on running. It runs as either a cooler or freezer depending on your temp set point but not both. I have it plugged into my 12v port that is appx 12 ft from the batteries(12 ga wire) and the cord on the unit is appx 9 ft long and looks to be 12 ga so the voltage drop is appx 2.5 volts when running so if you set the battery protect setting at 12.5 it will shut off.. I put mine at the lowest which is 9.6v.. and have no issues with battery voltage down to 12.1 volts at battery. Overall for the most part it a good product that seem to be a tough cookie.. :) LAST but not least.. after you get the product do NOT plug it in for at least 12 hrs.. WHY.. ??? it could have been put in a truck upside down ( I found mine on the front porch upside down despite the UP arrow) so take it out of the box open the lid to let it air out and let it sit for the day.. that allows the oil to go the right place when you start it up.. >>> UPDATE: so here we are in Dec of 2020 and some now 8K+ miles of RV travel with this sitting on teh floor bouncing around, sometime crazy stuff, and still going strong. I put some non slip stuff on the bottom to help keep it some sliding around when we travel.. the space inside has been a real treat when we go to like costco and have 3 containers of OJ and 2 Qts of milk to store when you have a 8CF refrigerator to begin with. you will get some moisture in the bottom over time so we pull everything out and give it a good clean every couple months and especially before a big trip to costco for sure. If i were to replace it I would go the larger 2 section unit the Alpicool T60 to more freezer space which reduces the refrigerator size by some. so far so good.. :) UPDATE: Sept 2022.. so here we are again with an update.. this unit has been one of the best item gotten in a long time. it works every day all day and the extra storage area is such a help when you full time rv and have a Sams and costco accounts.. :) you can stuff a lot of stuff in it to help .. runs off the batteries which are now 230 Ah lithium.. we look forward to many more years of usage.. i do blow out the fins about once a year or so when we clean it out and take outside to do. it get unplugged and I take the covers over and blow the dust etc out of the fan.. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE it.. :) UPDATE... Oct 2024,, shortly after the sept 2022 update, the unit started to show frost up near the top above the compressor end. We had to replace it as it was not able to maintain temp.. suspect it was a slow leak causing the problem.. went to alpicool website to get slight discount and free shipping.. oh course the delivery guy left it on friends door upside down.. flipped it over and let it sit of 3 hrs or so before plugging in to allow oil to flow back to compressor. plugged in and good to go.. a great addition.. highly recommend.. New or second unit was placed in service 5-12-23. UPDATE... 4-27-25 the now second unit direct from Alpicool is starting to show issues. Within the last month I was noticing the temp display was showing 50 deg and unit was running a lot.. things seemed to stay cold and when checked with thermometer was keep temp around 40-32.. now we have a line around top that look like frost which is not normal.. compressor runs constantly using a lot more battery watts then before.. Might have to switch to the more expensive Engel or National Luna brands at some 11-$1200 but seem to be overall better according to many reviews from overlander type that tend to use them more. At this point some $500 spend on these 12v compressor coolers and looking to spend another $250 I am close to the lower end cost of the nicer coolers.. If I had done a bit more research and money was less a problem back then, gone with a higher end unit like the 1. NL or 2. Engel or 3. dometic. I have learned over the year you get what you pay for.. better to buy once and cry once .. :) We plan to be full time RVer for the foreseeable future maybe getting a place for winter in southern AZ yuma area and travel more in spring to fall stopping for harvest job in the fargo ND area for couple months then heading south to nc then tx and AZ. i will keep updating this page as we progress and will include new cooler whatever brand it may be.. :)

An update after a long camping trip using the C40
I posted a review when I first received the C40. But this is an update after a week-long trip. Here is an update on the Alpicool C40 compressor Fridge. I just got back from a week-long Boondocking camping trip up in the high Sierra mountains of California. I ran the C40 the whole week long. But I'm not sure it was a proper test. The conditions were not ideal. We were at the 6,600-foot level and the temperature during the day was in the high 80s. Nights did not get below about 40 degrees (F). We knew it was going to be warmer than usual so I parked my camper under some trees. That was a mistake. I have only one battery and one 100-watt solar panel. The panel only had a 25-foot line going to the camper. I was having to move the panel to find sunlight several times per day. For much of the day, I did not have any power being generated at all. Maybe just 3 or 4 watts. The brochure says that the C40 uses 40 Watts when running. My son was with me and he had all day sunlight on his panel. His meter showed that he was generating as much as 60 Watts almost all day. We have the same Solar system. By the time I figured out the sun problem I was already set up and did not want to move. If I would have had another 25 feet of line, I could have also had sunlight all day. I will be ordering one tomorrow! It was warm enough up there that I did not need to run my heater at all. I only used power for the LED lights and the water pump. Even with all of those terrible conditions, the C40 ran for the whole week and maintained its temperature just like it was supposed to. As a precaution, I would turn the temperature up to about 44 during the night and back down to about 37 (F) in the morning. It was inside of my camper only 4 feet from me and was quiet enough that I did not hear it turn on and off during the night. But then again, I could sleep through a Thunderstorm. My battery never got below about 11.5 during the night. I had set the C40 safety shut-off at 9.5 volts. So it never turned off at night. Late every afternoon, I was able to find a spot at the rear of my camper where I had full sunlight on the panel until dark. In that location, I was generating 67 watts of power just long enough to bring the battery back up to nearly a full charge for the night and next day. Even though I had to fight for sunlight the whole week, I was very pleased with the C40. I did find that the internal temperature sensor was not very accurate. So I got a proper Fridge thermometer. I found that when the C40's panel was showing internal temperature was 44 degrees, the actual temperature inside was about 37 degrees (F). But it was very consistent. That would explain why there was some ice forming on the walls inside when the display was showing 37 degrees. It was actually going down below 32 degrees. I just learned to compensate for the difference. As long as you don't have a lot of power requirements, one 12-volt battery and one 100-watt solar panel is all you need to keep the C40 running all day and all night. You just have to make sure you can generate more than 40 Watts of power for some of the day to keep the battery charged. I am going to order another 25-foot extension for my Solar panel. In the photo, my popup camper is in the shade of the trees to the right. June 6, 2014 An update after 3 years of use: The Fridge is still woring as it was when I bought it 3 years ago.

What a work horse‼️
Our RV fridge died one week before we were taking our grandkids on a month long camping trip. We chose this unit for its flexibility; refrigerator or freezer and the reviews of reliability on bumpy rough roads. It proved to be a life saver. It functioned exactly as written, maintained temp regardless of auto plug-in, or electrical 110. When we stopped in 100+ degree weather, it maintained a sufficiently cool temp. And it easily holds quart of milk, large orange juice, dozen eggs, 4-pint sized containers, 6-soda cans, 4-1/2 pint containers, with lots of room for veggies, lunch meats, hot dogs, cheeses, fruit, butter, every perishable we needed for 10 days at a time. When we returned home, our household freezer quit and we unloaded our large, over stuffed freezer into this unit and set the temp to zero. It took about 15 minutes to reach freezing and is holding our food at zero for days now, plugged into 110. We couldn’t be more delighted with this unit. It’s everything the manufacturer claims, and more‼️ Oh, our nearest Trader Joe’s is 1-1/2 hours away. We took it shopping in our car, filled it with frozen food, set the unit to freeze and drove home in 108 degree weather. Food frozen solid when we got home. I LOVE this unit! Well worth the money and all the various plugs are included. Yes. It’s super quite. I had to check it to be certain it was running. You won’t regret this purchase.

Así me llego el producto, dañado y parece que fue un golpe fuerte o se les cayó. Todavía no lo e probado, desconozco que el golpe afecte el funcionamiento.

The seller (Geckos) has always been there to answer my questions almost immediately. I have asked 3 different questions since I have owned the C40 unit for 1 year. First was how to go from C to F. Third question was critical to adjusting the temp. It got stuck at either 33F or 41F. I received the correct instructions/solution within minutes to fix (reset) it in settings. And IT WORKED. Thank you!! (The Settings programming options are quite obtuse. So Gecko's help is critical.) Otherwise the unit seems very good for the price point. I keep it on constantly for 6 months a year in my sailboat. Except when my unit changed the temp on its own once and got stuck, it works very well. But, as stated, the Geckos staff helped me immediately. The fridge can also be set to be easy on my boat batteries when no shore power is available. One 40 watt Coleman solar panel keeps it all going (and the minimal draw at night means the batteries are good all night). (And remarkably if set at about 34F, somehow it keeps a baggie of ice cubes for drinks frozen indefinitely without freezing the other items. Wow!)

I was very hesitant to buy this as I expected it to be noisy compared to a Dometic unit at about twice the price. I rolled the dice, mostly because the dimensions were better for my application and, of course, it is about half the price. I'm glad I did. I sleep with my head mere inches away in my camper without issue and it performs efficiently and reliably, at least down to an internal temperature of -5C. If building it into a vehicle, just make sure you leave adequate ventilation for the lower sides of the long dimension.

We are pleased with the quality of the product. It runs fairly quietly and as we will be using this for car camping this is an important factor. Seems to be energy efficient although as yet we have only tested it at home but we are impressed. The unit had slight damage in transit and when we contacted the seller, B&T-USA, they were responsive and addressed our concerns positively. Very satisfied with this purchase.
