A fascinating book about how our consciousness may be immortal.
In my younger years I refused to believe in anything that could not be proven using the scientific method and I only believed in scientifically proven evidence. A good friend of mine at that time, who was a math and computer expert, would debate with me about esoteric and spiritual topics. He would insist that there is more than the material world, but philosophically I could not accept this view at that time; however, now that I am well into my senior years I realize my thinking errors and flaws when it comes to the esoteric and spiritual.I also began reading numerous books in the esoteric fields the last few years. It may be because as one enters the senior years and the end of this life is closer there is a change in the thinking processes. In any case, I just finished reading this fascinating and interesting book (The Immortal Mind: science and the continuity of consciousness beyond the brain by Ervin Laszlo with Anthony Peake) which I purchased on Amazon. This book explores the evidence for near-death-experiences from new research in this area.Since I had read various books lately on out-of-body travel (Astral projection and astral travel) I found The Immortal Mind a fantastic read. The question this book answers is “Does our consciousness, soul, or spirit end with the death of our body?” Once I began reading this volume it was difficult to put down. This is the kind of book that will force you to think more deeply and give hope that there is indeed something real about the astral world. The three parts this book covers includes the following: Part one: The evidence: near-death experiences, apparitions and after-death communication, medium transmitted communication, instrumental Trans communication, past-life recollection and reincarnation. Part two: The science: the rediscovery of the deep dimension, and consciousness in the Cosmos. Part three: The explanation: re-experiencing consciousness: the recall from Akasha and death and beyond: the return to Akasha. There is also an afterword and an appendix section: Conscious immortality: the dawn of a new dew era, confirming views from extraordinary sources. If you are interested in learning about the evidence for our consciousness continuing even after our death this is a must book to read. I loved it.Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: A poetic tribute to Autumn: The most beautiful time of the year).

This Answers "The Big Question"
The Big Question is whether human consciousness survives the death of the body. This book provides robust evidence that the answer is yes. The book is divided into three parts to address this question.Part I explores evidence supporting the "supernatural" phenomena of near-death experience, apparitions of deceased individuals, medium transcommunication, instrument transcommunication, past life recollection, and reincarnation.Part II examines the possible scientific bases of these phenomena, relying heavily on quantum entangle, cosmic holography, and the idea that information comprises the fundamental "substance" of the universe, and that space, time, matter, and energy are secondary and illusionary aspects of reality.Part III offers an explanation of the phenomena explored in Part I: That every one of them are different manifestations of the same reality; i.e., that there is only one consciousness and our separate consciousness are part of an indivisible whole. Moreover, these individual consciousness do not come from our physical brains, as material reductionism insists, but are just manifestations of the cosmic consciousness that are transmitted through our brains. Furthermore, our experiences, thoughts and emotions are indelibly encoded in the akasha record and these can be retrieved and relived by other living brains.I find the basic premise of this book to be quite believable. It touches on the groundbreaking work by Hameroff and Penrose into the quantum nature of consciousness, recent cutting-edge experiments involving quantum entanglement, and a lifetime of research and field work by Dr. Ian Stevenson in collecting evidence for reincarnation. The book also references strong anecdotal evidence for near-death experiences such as the very well-documented case of Pamela Reynolds."The Immortal Mind" also explores some of the world's belief systems, including ancient Greek, Hindu, Buddhist, and others in order to glean additional insights into The Big Question from the world's great philosophers.I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, which I completed in just two days and four sittings. I highly recommend it for a general audience as well as for those having a scientific background like myself.https://sites.google.com/site/amateurscientistessays/

A Book That Makes You Go Hmmm...
This book managed to convey quite a lot in a relatively short read. It's quite a slim paperback but it is rather interesting in what it achieves. Essentially it begins by asking rhetorically a couple of deep questions regarding consciousness and then explores different subjects whereby the examples of information and various cases would be difficult to comprehend if not for the fact that consciousness exists outside of the brain. There was only one chapter that I found far too difficult to understand, when the authors write about quantum theory. The rest of the book is very good and extremely helpful in understanding consciousness and what it is but essentially the book succeeds because it manages to convey the undoubtable evidence that consciousness continues after death.

Complex mind crunching beautiful book. It is anecdotal and somewhat sedate.

the immortal mind:science & the continuity of consciousness etc
started off quite well but gradually veered off into the realms of fantasy. three stars is about adequate but it is still a decent read.
