Excellent theory, poor example code
This book is from a theoretically point of view the bible of the Spring Framework. It provides you with an overview of the various components, and it gives to the developer the knowledge that he needs to use Spring. However, the example code is a disaster. There are minor glitches in chapter 2, and you may think that things will improve, but they will not. Chapter 3 is a mess. I still have to read the rest, but I am very disappointed, since I usually take notes from this kind of books, and I use their examples as verified skeletons that represent the best practices. In this case, I can not. I was not expecting this from a Manning book.

Lots of errors, hasn't been proof read very well
I've not got that far through the book so far but by chapter 2 there are errors where methods are not included in the code snippets and classes are named incorrectly or missing with the author stating that the code should run and be functional but there are components missing that aren't created until later in the chapter. The online source code seems to be correct but it doesn't bode well if the author can't get the basics right.

Do not buy unless you don't read the example code
The book has so many errors in the code that its just looks like this published book is still a first draft, or worse. Shame.

Big mess
The book is garbage. i give 2 stars for theory BUT the book is called 'in action' because it designs a small sprin app with the theory so... has a lot of code, well, the code is full of errors. there is also a github link where you can find the code which surprise surprise is a lot different than the on in the book and surprise surprise surprise... is also full of errors. i thing this shows zero respect from the author to sell a book with so many problems

Nice writing style, but error-ridden examples made me quit
I'm afraid that what everyone else is saying is true. The code examples in the book are riddled with so many inconsistencies that it's impossible to build the pieces of the project yourself without putting in a heroic amount of effort. I reached partway into chapter 3 (page 71 out of 485) before deciding that I owed it to myself to be more efficient with my time and look for some other guides/tutorials to follow. It's a shame, because I quite like the writing style and learned some things I hadn't seen elsewhere. The book is salvagable, but a proof-reader (or someone new to Spring) needs to work through it to make sure it all makes sense if there's ever to be a decent 6th edition.

Errors, missing code, terrible book
This book contains so many errors, it's nearly impossible to follow along with the examples (missing code for method calls, random class names that appear out of nowhere that are meant to be something else, etc). Many of these errors have been pointed out over a year ago from the previous edition to the author, and yet he has done nothing to fix them. Just google "spring in action fifth edition forum" and you will see the numerous complaints this book has received on the publisher's forum. I'm returning this, what a waste of money
