This book has an odd political agenda!
I’m a teacher of English with significant experience in preparing pupils for very challenging entrance examinations in UK schools. I don’t recommend this book for pupils in the UK because it is American and includes American spellings and words which may cause confusion. For a children’s vocabulary book, I also find this text very overly patriotic / pro-colonialist, almost to the point of it seeming to be brainwashing. For example, there are numerous activities which ask pupils to crack codes where the clues are linked to colonial history and lots of references to America’s greatness etc etc form a part of the activities. American inventors, American places etc etc form so much of the content it’s like the rest of the world doesn’t exist. I ended up teaching a highly curated selection of the book. By all means wear a MAGA cap and crack on with this book as some tasks in it are not without merit but I’d strongly advise getting something like The Big 11+ Vocabulary Play Book instead.

Happily finished this vocabulary book for grades 3-5. 🎉 Some fun facts: - Start date: Aug 16 - End date: Oct 10 - Total number of lessons: 45 - New words learned: ~700 - Hours spent: ~110 - Tools used: Anki, vocabulary dot com It has taken more time than I anticipated, but it feels good to finish something. More importantly, I’ve learned more than just the words! For example, I also learned some fun facts, culture, and interesting things from the book. I can really recommend it. Looking forward to the vocabulary book for grades 6-8.😎

高校生向の語彙学習で使える洋書テキストを探していてこちらにたどり着きました!教材の量、扱っている語彙の難易度、ワークのデザイン全てにおいて満足です。語彙学習というと英語⇔日本語の単語帳がメインの生徒たちでしたが、初の英単語を英語で説明してある教材にモチベーションが上がっているようで購入して良かったです!レベルは英検2級~その少し上くらいかなと個人的には思いました。

It’s good but some exercises are about USA history which I don’t care for as that’s not where I am. Ideally the excercises would be country agnostic. We also use the words for spelling practice.

Great vocabulary book with interesting words and exercises. I like how there are many different activities for each set of vocabulary words. My son really enjoys figuring out the answer to the question at the beginning of each task. My son is 8 years old and this level is perfect for him.
