The answer you are looking for is very subjective, You need to find out what your electricity tariff is per Kw hour, for me day time is 20p per KwH on the lowest setting (600 watt) you can run this for 2 hours and it would cost just over 20p. night time rates are lower than that.

Q: does it give off heat for a while when turned off

All heaters will do this even Halogen Deborah but not for long. This heater suits all my needs for my living room replacing the use of useless night storage heaters. Hope this helps?x ♥(ړיי)♥
