Great food at a great price
We have been trying to get our Boston Terrier’s weight down a bit for over a year but he just kept gaining weight and was really gassy on the Hills Science Diet formula our (previous) vet recommended and didn’t know what to do. I decided to research myself and came across this brand which came highly recommended by the Dog Food Advisor. It is full of great, healthy ingredients with one of the lowest fat contents of any dry food, as well as very little filler. Our chunky boy absolutely LOVES this stuff! He is very picky but went right at this every day, while we slowly switched him over. It’s been 3 weeks and he has already lost almost a full lb and, even more importantly, as any Boston Terrier owner will know, it doesn’t upset his stomach or cause gas!! Hallelujah!! His poops are solid, he is much less gassy and loves it. Couldn’t be happier, especially at this price point. He is now down to 28.1lbs and we fully expect him to continue to lose at a healthy pace on this brand of food. The only downside is this food does get a bit crumbly/powdery, especially near the bottom of the bag but the pups don’t seem to mind at all. We will usually mix with a little bit of Weruva Double Dip or Goldie Lox wet food (low fat and high quality as well) and they eat every crumb. Please remember, it is very important to switch your fur babies over to a new food slowly or they will have gastrointestinal issues. Take your time with it and plan it out so you don’t run out of the old before you transition them over completely to the new food. I see lots of comments about gastric issues but if you switch them over slowly, you won’t have this problem.Highly recommend!

Five Stars
Keeps my boys (just over 2 years old), running on full charge. One of my boys, (both are Airedales-brothers) recently took a perfectly good rock, about the size of a book of matches, and turned it into a $3000 diamond that doesn't shine. In other words he managed to swallow it and ended up blocking his intestine. He needed emergency surgery, which they were able to remove the rock and unfortunately also 4 feet of his intestine due to infection. I won't bother with all the details but it was touch and go for a while. He finally started eating,(after about 7 days-prior/post surgery time, I was about ready for some medications myself by then), the canned "prescription" food from the vet which most vets carry, won't mention the brand. They said he may have to stay on it due to his shortened intestine to be able to process enough nutrients from it. A few weeks after that he stopped eating it altogether and kept trying to get to his brothers food (the Eagle Pack). I had been looking at the can formula, coming to find out it did not have very great ingredients, along with a few other things, and decided to let him try his regular food again. He started eating it like it had the cure in it. He started to gain weight better and had a sharp up tick in energy level, though some of that may still have been coming off the surgery. I checked with the vet and he said it should be fine as long as he seemed to process it ok and got enough nutrients. It is a smaller kibble so was not to worried about it getting through the new intestine connection as much since the vet had said he could have had the dry version of the "prescription" formula. Please do not take this as a medical opinion, you should always check with your vet on theses things, especially with a surgery involved. This was just my view on the quality of Eagle Pack dog food. Glad to say several months down the road and he is doing great, along with myself and his brother, back up to full Airedale speed and energy- yeah, not always a good thing but good to see again.

May go back to Taste of the Wild..
My three dogs have been eating Taste of the Wild for over two years with me changing the flavor every month and they seem to do well on it. However, I have been looking for an alternative to TOTW that is comparable in quality, but that would be a little easier on my budget. My Chiuahua and Beagle seem to enjoy and eat the Eagle Pack fine, but they'll eat any thing and basically have iron stomaches. My Rhodesian Ridgeback Mix on the other hand is a picky eater. She has already lost interest in the food after just one month. I have also noticed that she has had very bad gas lately. My husband started transitioning the dogs to Eagle Pack while I was away last month and says he hasn't noticed if she has been having gas the whole time. 😣Her stool look normal at least, which is a positive. Since I have another bag on the way as I write this, I am going to give it another month and see if her gas goes away or if it is in fact the Eagle Pack.In general the food seems good. The size of the kibble is about the same as TOTW. Te texture does appears to be a little drier, but that could be due to the "reduced fat" formula we are trying now. The order on it's way is one of the regular formulas, so I will be able to compare them once it arrives. At this time I can't recommend it, but I also wouldn't discount it as an alternative to any of the more expensive and mainstream holistic foods currently on the market.

Excellent for dog that has had pancreatitis
My Great Dane was eating a food for large dogs. He had 2 attacks of pancreatitis within a month. emergency vet said no snacks or ppl food. (He’d get a snack every now & then) Someone told me to look at fat and get 10% or less. Many foods don’t show it, or just show the min or max% not both. This food shows min and max and it’s 9%. It says it’s for weight loss and all three of my dogs love it, and they’re at good weights. One side effect, one of my Great Danes farts more on this food, the other-that used to be the main “pooter”, now hardly farts at all! lol.
