Did not work for Squirrels but great for cat
I bought this mat to keep squirrels from climbing my bird feeder poles. The squirrels would pull down my bird feeders and break them. I bought this mat hoping it would stop the desrtruction of my bird feeders. I wrapped the mat around the poles and tree branches and I even made a wall with the mat, but this mat did not stop squirrels. Squirrles are used to sharp tree branches so the spikes do not bother them. The squirrels walked over the spikes without any problems. The mat did not work with squirrels, but for our neighbor's cat it is keeping it out of our yard for now. Our neighbor's very large kitty would jump our vinyl fence and jump into our yard to get to the wild birds eating at our bird feeders. The cat would come into our yard early in the morning and sit quietly under plants. I worried it might get one of the birds. So I laid the cat scat mat over the top of the ground where the neighbor's cat jumps into our yard. I woke up early one morning and I heard the cat jumping our fence to get out of our yard. I'm not sure if it actually jumped on the spikes or if the cat saw the spikes from the top of our fence. A few days later, I heard it jump on top of our fence again, but this time it did not jump into our yard. It must have seen the mat was still in place. I'm keeping my fingers crossed this will stop the kitty coming into our yard. It didn't work for squirrels but it seems to be working with our neighbor's cat. For the squirrels I'm looking around Amazon for something else.

Keeps my cat from chewing on my plants
I bought the Homarden Black Cat Mat to keep my cat from chewing on my plants, and it has worked amazingly well. I wrapped the mat around the base of my plants, and my cat hasn’t gone near them since. The material is flexible enough to shape how you need it, but sturdy enough to actually deter curious paws.

Works for squirrels ...
Bought this on a whim. Squirrels were climbing my bird feeder pole and robbing all my bird feeders. I cut about 2 inches off (the short) way and wrapped it under my lowest bird feeder on my pole. It must of been a good day to learn a lesson, about 8-12 squirrels came on over for breakfast, I was watching them, and they were watching me, watch them as they seem to not care if I throw rocks at them , yell at them, open the door and let it slam it, etc. That first morning I just watched, they seemed disappointed that I didn't try and scare them, but the first dude , who always climbs first to eat and then pushes all the seed off the platform feeders for the little guys to get some, started to climb. I seen him stop and notice something different, but then he just kept on climbing.... Then it happened. That mfer must of gotten the pokey thing in the exact spot that maybe is the equivalent to a human getting a sliver under their fingernail, because I never seen a squirrel flip out mid air and scream/bark as he did. I spit my tea all over my front door and the other squirrels seemed so scared they couldn't move, they could only watch their buddy freaking out. I actually felt bad for the squirrel, but it's been a few days and no squirrel has attempted to climb the pole, let alone even come into my yard to even eat the seeds on the ground that are for the ducks, bunnies and chipmunks. My next test is to put some fancy feast under a strip of it and see if it works on the cat that's always trying to get my ducks. Will update once I get that going.

Scat Mat saves my garden
I am an avid gardener & this product has saved my plants & drip irrigation from gnawing squirrels, chipmunks, moles, voles, gophers, cats, dogs, etc. Use right off the roll or simply cut to fit each plant, mound or burrowing hole. The mat rolls come with metal pins to help anchor in place. The short black plastic spikes are definitely a deterrent without harming the animal. And the mat blends in with the soil so not unsightly. This product is the best.

Dog detergent too!!
My daughter requested this item and she has used it on her fence along the bottom to deter her GSP from digging holes, but also midway on the fence—-about where his feet would hit if he was trying to scale their 6 ft fence! She cut pieces of it and placed it in his high traffic areas. So far it is working as she’d hoped!

Not cost effective
Quite expensive. Wish I had gotten more for my money. I wanted in my flower garden but it cost me 64.00 for 4 packages. which really didn't cover much space at all. I would have to spend at least a 1000. dollars if not more to over the area .There alot of cats that like to use my flower beds as a liter boxes. Mind u the beds do have lots of flowers and I am only trying to over the open areas.. .so I do not need to full coverage.

Works great!
I purchased this scat mat because I have a very large (think 36” diameter) round indoor planter with a huge monstera in which my daughter’s cats would like to think is their playground and litter box. We tried all the natural everything’s with no success. A chicken wire fence around it WAS effective, but, you know, not visually aesthetic. The roll arrived well packaged, quickly, and intact. It is easy to cut- I used pruning shears. I rated 4 stars out of 5 only because it would be great if there were rounded corner pieces? Just a thought. Not that it was hard to put in my round planter, I just cut off the excess, however it felt like a little bit of a waste. That being said, overall, it works as intended! The cats HATE it, and the plant no longer smells like cat excrement and the soil is still intact because they’re not digging around and playing in it. And the chicken wire is no longer needed!

After my 6 year old housecat escaped he was a completely different cat on his return. He has always been a territorial cat where if you leave the bed unattended or anything material on the sofa he will strike. However he started to target the sofa x3 times a day without anything on it. It being a leather sofa it was difficult to clean and we spent so much money on enzyme cleaners etc and even a hydrophobic throw to discourage him. We were going to ban him from the living room altogether but decided to buy these spikes which had mixed reviews. In the spot he was targeting I cut the strip in two and placed half on back of the sofa and the other portrait on the bottom with a puppy pad underneath. I also placed a shallow tray with a puppy pad in it at first on the sofa but have been gradually moving this further away. Anyway it's been over 2 weeks now and he has not soiled the sofa. I don't like how the spikes look amd don't want to come across as mean mother but this is the only thing that has worked and they have not injured themselves on them. So if you are at the end of your tether seriously give these a go. *Update. After a month or so I've been able to remove the spikes, he doesn't pee anymore where he shouldn't!

A very helpful deterrent to add to our other sonic deterrent. In the beginning, the Tom cat reduced the amount of deposits it made where we placed it. However, now Autumn is approaching we need to keep removing leaves blown onto the spiked matting. The leaves cover the spikes and can create a wonderful leaf cushion for the Tom cat to relieve himself on.
