Replaced 6 older style smoke detectors, getting false alarms, so basically unplug and plug new one in. Yes turn off the power first. The design is actually nice looking for a smoke detector. They have a soft green LED light which is visible thru the small opening which makes it easy to see if it is working. I have one up on a cathedral ceiling which needs a ladder to get to. Used a 10 yr battery in that one, we'll see. Instructions included if your starting from scratch but probably want to get a professional installer (electrician).

Very easy to install and fit perfectly with the plug type that I had. I was able to install nine of them in just under 30 minutes. It came with the necessary adapters in the event I had to change out the plug type. The best part is, they were manufactured very close to when I receive them, which allows me to maximize the 10 year lifespan.

Theses were perfect. Super easy to mount using the old hardware from my 25 year old detectors. Wiring is simple with the included wire nuts. They are just large enough to cover the discoloration of the ceiling paint from the old detector. The side batter compartment is so much nicer since you don't have to remove the unit to replace the battery.It does have a green LED that is always on. It adds a little ambient light to the room. i could do without that but it's very minor.

Good price and replacement was fairly easy for this 75 year old handy man. BUT..............after re-wiring everything, plugging in the new plug into the unit was extremely difficult. Why they make the plug so difficult to plug in is beyond me. A least I got it done and all 6 units are interconnected and working as they should. Damn those plugs..............!!!!!

My home is 25 years old as were the smoke detectors. My house built in 1999 and pick this brand BRK because no re wiring just put the plate up and plugged in the unit and work perfectly. Took me 20 minutes to change out 5 alarms.

These matched the detectors our contractor originally installed. Unfortunately we had to replace each wall bracket and on one we had to replace the electrical connection. But the instructions were very clear and they were simple to install. The hardest part is getting up to each detector!We replaced all 8 of our house's detectors as they were 19 years old and kept going off randomly. These new detectors have been installed for 6-months now and they have not gone off once!Didn't know that you should repace your detectors every 10 years. These are affordable (especially when buying the multipack) and easy to install so we won't hesitate when these need replacing.
