Q: Is it normal that there’s oil pulling up in the plastic bag that the pan arrived in? Seems kind of gross and messy.

Yes, when my pan arrived it was in plastic and the pan was oiled. I did do research on this and it is recommended that after each use of the wok pan, wash with soapy water and dry with paper towel and then apply a dime size drop of oil to the pan and continue working the oil into the pan with the paper towel. This prevents the wok from forming rust and also provides a non stick coating for the next use. Hope this helps.
