This thing works great. I do wish the button would work opposite . As in pushing to release but other then that i absolutely love it. Very strong magnet will pick up around 4 lbs at end even tho the box sats 5 but im extremely satisfied with it . Perfect for pocket on pants or shirts

Very good for panned gold

Small, weak. I only bought it to separate black sands from gold cons in the field. It is more than adequate for that task, but I think they overrated the strength of the magnet by an extremely large amount. This think won't pick up a 3" pocketknife. You'd be lucky to pick up more than a couple of ounces to be quite frank. It is, however, good at it's intended job so I can't complain

It came on time. It’s small and it works. If have a lot of black sand then I would tell you to buy the bigger one. For small amounts or no more than 5 - 10 oz. At a time, then this will do.

After trying it out I decided to return it. The magnet just wasn’t strong enough (my own personal preference, it may be fine for you). Another thing I didn’t care for was the awkward way you had to hold it in order to use it. The manufacturer would do this product justice by adding some kind of finger holds for the pointer and middle fingers since you need to push the plunger downward to “activate” the magnet sort of a like using a syringe but with the finger holds missing you have to grip it by making a fist and push the plunger down with your thumb. Or put the body between your pointer and middle finger and push the plunger down with you thumb . Either way, i thought it was awkward. Again, this is my view on this and you may have better results.

I like this product for its convenience, portability and ease-of-use. Being that I am a beginner at panning for minerals I am using smaller amounts of gravel and sand. It’s nice to have something small and easy to operate that I can work with a quarter cup at a time. I found that the bigger stronger magnet that I used was picking up too much product and sand that I did not want to have picked up. This magnet pen allows me to keep it handy and only pick up where and what I want to. This is a great little product for the beginner and experience to like.
