Magical escape to a different naughty idiom.

An all time favourite - a must read - charming short stories on the surface, with undertones from real observations of the characters involved in all manner of shenanigans on Broadway during the prohibition era. All written in Runyon's unique present-tense style and witty as hell. I can't recommend more highly.

I can't get enough of the Damon Runyon Broadway stories. Some are poignant, some are almost slapstick but all are written in that unique style and entertaining language that makes me laugh out loud every couple of pages.This collection includes stories I had previously read in the edition called "Guys and Dolls", plus about twice as many more.

I have had a copy of this book for many years and it is one I always take on holiday or if I'm away for a few nights. The stories and characters are wonderful. I like it so much that I have bought this copy for a friend so that I don't have to lend out my own copy so often.

I wanted to read these stories to someone who was ill. Thankyou !
