Loads of fun!
I have two little boys, one of whom is too small to play in a sandbox yet, but I wanted to make sure we got a sandbox that would be large enough for them both once he gets old enough. Those little plastic crab and turtle sandboxes are so cute, but I thought they would be too small. The Kidkraft Backyard Sandbox is just what we were looking for! It's plenty large enough for multiple kids to play, and the bench seats in the corners are very handy. They are sturdy enough for me to sit on, too. As for fun value, my not-quite-three-year-old will play in there indefinitely. He spent hours in it the day we filled it, and about an hour of that was without any toys! The sandbox was easy to put together, and is made of high quality wood. We just put a tarp under it to hold in the sand. The cover works fine to keep out leaves, cats, etc. We put in 15 50-lb. bags of sand, and it probably needs another 2 or 3, just to give folks an idea of how much it will hold. Bottom line, great sandbox and a great way to keep your kids entertained for hours!

Worth it, if you don't have time to build one.
Look, this would be very easy to build - but you're here because you don't have that time. It's well engineered, with solid wood and locking bolts. You could even add a little wood glue. Yes, the sand will get wet: The under-side is a plastic sheet - with holes to allow drainage. After putting it together, I realized how necessary that is, or it would be completely reliant on evaporating pooled water from 600-800 lbs of sand. That also means that water will soak the sand from the bottom if the sandbox is placed where runoff water pools or flows. The mesh net cover allows for evaporation. I bought a waterproof plastic cover for rainy days, but will generally leave it off because condensation collects under it and holds in moisture. I also took 15 minutes to coat on an additional layer of clear sealant, addressing mold concerns from other reviews. Will probably empty, dry, and refill it once per year (if it lasts). Finally, I would count on 600 lbs of sand minimum (12x 50lb bags). I put in 700 (14x 50lb bags). 900-100 lbs will fill sand right up to the corner seats. Purchase or order sand from a hardware store. Prices on this app are 8x what I paid. Also, note that play sand is bagged with moisture for packing purposes. Account for a little time to dry for your kiddos.

Cheaper than building it yourself
This is a decent sandbox, and big enough for three children, ages 4, 7, and 8. We figured the cost of purchasing the wood and building it ourselves, but this prefabricated sandbox is less expensive. It goes together in about an hour. The wood did split in one part where the two long boards are screwed together at the corners, so handle with care when you are putting it together...don't let the wood get twisted. Also make sure you screw all the side boards on ***right side up,*** or the corner benches won't sit into position and you won't be able to attach them. The plastic "Viz-queen" type bottom liner is good enough. It is attached with some plastic pegged strips that fit into pre-drilled holes in the wood, so it holds just fine, especially once you get the sand in. I don't know exactly how much sand we put in there, because my husband used the front loader on his tractor (2 scoops). Set this sandbox up in a shady spot, and your kids/grandkids will have hours of fun.

Exceptional Value for Those Who Are Thinking to DIY
I was building out my master plans to build my son's a sandbox...perhaps its my need to over-engineer things, but it wasn't going to be cheap and also not the most fun of projects I could be doing. Then I found this Kidcraft sandbox and thought I'd give it a shot. It's now been in place for a month and the kids LOVE it! It was a breeze to assemble and took about 14 50lb bags of sand to fill up. The netting to cover it has worked well through the first few rains and I think does a decent job of keeping critters out, but come winter ill be tarping this off to keep it lasting a bit longer. UPDATE: September 2015 So I put this together over three years ago and it's still up and being enjoyed by the kids. I've only had to add sand over the years and that's about it. I didn't bother putting any treatment on the wood and it's still in decent shape and is only now starting to show signs that it may begin cracking and breaking down in the coming years. For the money, this is a great product.

Fine at first but wears quickly
Fine initially but this this has not held up.. we have had to fix two of the corner seat pieces and the mesh cover allowed leaves to come into the edges still. Plus it rips easily. The plastic lining doesn’t do much to keep the sand in so it feels like it doesn’t do anything. There’s no lid for those who are wondering. If I had to do the sandbox thing again, I’d go with one of those ugly plastic turtles. I didn’t want to do that the first time but that’s what I would do!

Buy with Confidence - Great Sandbox!
I had read and been concerned about some of the reviews. You can buy with confidence! It was easy to assemble...took well under and hour. The instructions are easy to follow, and even though I didn’t need it, they include extra hardware! Who does that? It smelled amazing coking together - that aromatic cedar. The seats are sturdy. The cover does fit quite well. It’s a great size. All you need from your toolbox is a phillips head screwdriver, and you could probably do without it! I was thinking of making one myself. I am so glad I didn’t! And all the pieces arrived in good shape very quickly. Have owned it one day.

Perfect backyard sandbox
I bought this for my son and his friends to have some sand fun (in the shade) since we don't get to the beach as much as we should. It is the perfect size for him to play in alone with his ride on excavator or with a friend or 2. Plenty of room so they're not on top of each other. I fit in there pretty with him. He loves it. My husband and I out it together in about 15 minutes...super easy but sturdy and they give you labeled extra parts (just in case.) $5 bags of play sand from Lowe's and we have a playground quality addition to our back yard play space.

Mehhh.
Just put this together, so I will update on quality once it’s seen my boys and the elements. It was easy to assemble alone. Added a layer of wet seal prior to putting together. I put blocks under each seat to avoid what last reviews mentioned about the seats cracking. This wood is thin, and seems like mediocre quality at best. That being said, it looks good for now. Didn’t dig a hole, added 800 lbs of sand. I tied the cover on once prior to adding sand, and once after adding sand, ties seem frayed already, doubt it’ll last long. But it does look good. The rake next to it is to gauge its actual size. I have pictures but don’t see a link to upload.
