Discipline as "TEACHING" not as punishment
This is a very thorough approach to understanding the mindset of discipline as TEACHING, not punishment. I found it very helpful. And a lot of the skills she talks about are applicable to dealing with adults, too!One of them is "Positive Intent" - basically assuming the best about something we cannot know. So when a driver cuts me off in traffic I assume, "they must have a sick child at school," or something similar, and just as noble, and that is why they cut me off - not just because they are impatient and mean. Since I will probably never know the truth, it really does not matter what I think, but thinking something positive makes ME feel better about it! Brilliant! :) (The same goes for disciplining your children - always assume they are innocently trying to figure things out, not just trying to be mean or "push your buttons.")It is a long book, though, so be prepared to wade through it (not overly long, but not a short read by any means). And it will make you think. But if you stick with it. I think you will be convinced and finish it with some skills to assist in your discipline efforts, if nothing else.
