Straight forward and easy to understand
I purchased this for my homeschooled, high school student, who wanted to do candy making as an elective. This book is well laid out and does work for this. It begins with several sections covering the tools required, ingredient information, basics of sugar cooking, and several facts about chocolate melting. Then, it is divided into chapters, which center around the various types of candies (sugar, caramels, fondant, chocolate, marshmallow, etc). At the end, not only is there the normal glossary but also some decorative ideas and tips. All of these recipes are easy to follow and do create lovely treats. On the homeschooling end, of course, this book only served well for the actual cooking and other information (history, chemistry, etc) needed to be added in addition (but this is a cookbook not a textbook). Also, I visited the chapters in a slightly different order, since the recipes in the early chapters sometimes did call for chocolate dipping, although chocolate hadn't been visited yet. And lastly, this recipe book calls for microwave chocolate melting...which we did, instead, stick with the traditional, double-boiler technique.Summed up, this is great for candy making beginners and covers quite a few fronts.

Good recipes
This book is good but it gives you such large quantities of sweets. I have to divide the recipe in quarters in some cases as I don’t need quite so much toffee or candy filling. Otherwise the recipes are great.

Wow, Must Have for the At-Home Candy Maker!
This a super book! It is everything I ever wanted in a candy making book. This is my first book on candy-making and it is very comprehensive book in terms of recipes, techniques and trouble shooting. There are photos of every step in the process and the kindle-edition is perfect in terms of the placement of the step-by-step images and the written explanation for each recipe. In this book, you learn everything from fudge to truffles, marshmallows to taffy, and even pulled sugar and sugar curls. Whatever mess-up you've had in the past, there is an answer for it in this book. Once you read this, you'll be able to fix and kitchen oopsy with your sweet confections.Although this is a cook book and a technique book as well, it is also a great read. There are brief narratives woven throughout the book, and the author's bright personality and passion for candy really shine through and add beautiful color to a true gem of a book for any candy maker. I was so excited and filled with child-like joy reading such wonderful, nostalgic recipes that I finished the book in one sitting. If you are at all interested in candy making, don't think twice on this one. Go for it!

Get this book! Great projects for pandemic lockdown
This book has been quite fun for our family during this pandemic lockdown. I have been trying to find fun STEM and cooking activities for our older children. This book is so good! We have made a few recipes so far. The pictures are great, and the instructions are clear and easy to follow. I particularly appreciate the authors effort to fully explain the whys and how’s before each chapter. The specific instructions about not making certain types of candy during high humidity was a terrific bit of helpful information. It led us to buy a new small digital weather station that is now on our kitchen window sill. We learned about making candy and also started learning about meteorology too. Win win for this mom.

LOVE this book!
I won't go into all the "this book contains thus and so..." stuff other than to say I have a TON of candy books and this is probably my favorite. It's a technique book primarily which focuses on nine kinds of confections and helps out with both troubleshooting and presentation (two things other candy books seem to not focus on). The pictures are very helpful (and colorful!) and the text is easy to understand. I've been baking for over 40 years now and candy making can challenge even the most experienced confectioner. With this book I've gleaned great ideas and learned to troubleshoot a few challenging techniques. If you only buy one candy-making book, I highly recommend this one.
