Super sharp wide open nift fifty
Fantastic lens. It's an f/1.4 nifty fifty that is sharp as heck wide open. Tad on the heavy side for a 50mm, but I'll pay that tax to get outstanding optics for the price. AF works really well after an easy firmware update on my A7Riii. I've taken over 5000 shots with it so far... Many in very challenging lighting at a wedding reception... And i was very glad to have the f/1.4 aperture. Its also crisp with loads of contrast outdoors. Worth every penny.

Great lens with excellent build quality
This lens feels as good as (maybe even better) my G master Sony lenses in terms of build quality and better than any 3rd party lens from the likes of Sigma and Tamron. Super sharp, excellent image quality, focus and aperture rings are smooth to adjust.

Excellent lens, especially for the money.
Takes wonderful photos and gorgeous bokeh at less than half the cost of the Sony. I love my Sony lenses, but this 135 I knew was not going to be used very often, so I kept putting off getting it. You get used to the aperture ring issue of it not having distinct stops to the far left and far right, so that becomes a non-issue. Note, the lens elements make some clunking sounds when the lens is not powered up and this can be disconcerting, but this is normal behavior of the lens.

Optically strong but ergonomic quirks
Optically this lens is really sharp. However, there are some ergonomic issues. The focal range limiter is reversed from native Sony lenses so it is easy to accidently adjust the switch. The lens hood is good quality but it's also really tight against the lens so the rubber edge catches on the lens quite often while trying to remove it.

Amazing lens, you won't need a GM.
This lens is amazing, is something whit the 135mm that is magic for portraits, different to 85mm ,amazing quality whit this lens autofocus is super fast and accurate, is a big lens, but whitnamazing functionality and performance for the price.

Fantastic Lens that is Unsuitable for Professional Photography
This is an absolutely fantastic lens that produces very pleasing and sharp images. The autofocus is very fast and can capture high speed sports without issue. This lens also has the sharpness, and close focusing ability that it can work as a macro after cropping on a high-resolution (I’m using an A7RIV) sensor. There’s just something about the 135mm F1.8 that produces stunning images. Headshots, tight portraits, mid and full-length portraits especially in backlight conditions look magical with this lens. The image included in the review is a unedited straight out of camera JPEG. It is heavy and big, but I feel like those are OK compromises for its price and performance. I was hoping that it would be a net weight savings if I can leave my Tamron 35-150mm f2-2.8 and my macro in the car on wedding days. This issue that makes it unsuitable for any professional photography is the aperture ring. I am a wedding and event photographer and have an assortment of lenses that both have and lack aperture rings. Because not all of my lenses have aperture rings I typically disable aperture rings, or lock the aperture ring so that the aperture control is mapped to a command dial on the body. The issue with the Viltrox 135mm is that the aperture ring cannot be disabled. You can turn the dial to where aperture is controlled by the body, but just a couple of very subtle clicks to the left and the aperture is at f16. I frequently carry two camera bodies and there were times where I found myself shooting at f16 because the aperture dial must have moved over at some point. Another issue is when you see that you are at the wrong aperture, you must turn the dial several revolutions to the right to get back to camera body command dial control. Once you are back to the command dial, the aperture defaults to f4, and then you need to turn the command dial several revolutions to get back to f1.8. During some sports photography I noticed I was at f16, had to turn the aperture control dial on the lens to the right to get to automatic, and then turn my command dial to get back to f1.8. This takes a few seconds and caused me to miss some shots. Fortunately, this was during sports photography I was shooting for fun. The most frustrating aspect of this is it’s just a software choice Viltrox made. There should be an option to disable the aperture ring in the Viltrox app. Once that option is there this will move from a “fun lens” to a lens I can actually use for work. I will also update my review if that software/firmware change is made available.

Great Lens!
Great lens! I’m using it on the Sony a6400, so with the crop factor it’s more of a 75mm lens but it’s still just as sharp with amazing bokeh! I haven’t gotten it out and about too much yet but I’m looking forward to taking it on a shoot!
