G-Shock Mudman Super Dual Illuminator Men's Quartz 52mm Digital Watch G9000-1V

I've owned this watch a week now it's it my first and only G-Shock watch. I do a lot of mountain biking and bike camping, and my "nice" watch was always left behind. This seemed like a good, cheap alternative for a solid reliable watch. Here are the things I like about this watch and why I choose it. First, it has everything you need. There are more fully featured watches, but do you need them? I do not need a thermometer, sunrise/set, moon phase, or barometer. A compass might be nice but I can live without it. If you're the type of person who needs those features you know it. It's not solar, but this is an advantage in a low-maintenance watch. I have another solar watch, but I'm fine with a battery. Both need to be swapped out over so many years anyway and the solar is more maintenance. I have to charge it twice per year, once in the summer sun and an overnight boost in the winter from my strong LED bicycle light. This watch is set-and-forget. It lacks atomic radio sync. I have it on another watch and I like it. I am slightly OCD so I checked the G-Shock's time after a week, it's still on the same second. I can eyeball a slight difference. The atomic G-Shock is around $200, this one is around $50. I can live with that. The mudman has a raised back so the watch doesn't stick to your wrist. If you're into sports that make you all sweaty this is really nice. The main reason I like this watch is that it's normal sized. I have a 7" wrist and it's totally balanced in terms of size. Most G-Shocks, especially the newest ones, have ballooned into a huge monstrous size, as if this makes you more manly. There's nothing wrong with a big watch but it's not my style. There are very few medium sized G-Shocks, this is one of them. The buttons are a little hard to press as everyone has mentioned. It's designed that way to keep grit out and it's really not a big deal. Finally, how can you beat the price? It's inexpensive and lightweight. I can take it anywhere, bash it into trees, stuff it into my backpack, sweat all over it, then run it over the sink for a bit and it's like new. I'm looking forward to wearing this one for the next several years. I will likely get bored of it before it outlives its usefulness but I'll keep updating this review.

I decided to check out this watch, after hearing great things about it, and I absolutely love it. The G9000 is a great watch. The size of the watch makes it perfect for all wrist sizes, despite the diameter of the watch being relatively big. It has your typical functions that you’d expect from a G-Shock, such as your alarms, timer, world time, and a stopwatch (two of them that can run concurrently). It has an electroluminescent backlight that lights up the entire screen, including the text on the dial as well. It’s a good looking watch. Really like the design of the backplate. The grooves on the back of the watch may cause discomfort for some, but I like the added space between my wrist and the backplate. 200 metres of water resistance is perfect as well. The biggest flaw of this watch is the volume of the alarms, but it’s still louder than the alarms of the GW-5000U/GW-M5610U. In addition, the buttons are bit hard to press. The watch has remained very accurate, only gaining about a second since getting it. Overall, this is a great watch that gets the job done, and is more than capable to withstand everyday life.

I'll preface this review by mentioning that I've been an avid Casio collector for several years, and have been interested in watches since I was barely old enough to tell the time. I've owned around 100 or so watches in this time, many of which were great and many of which were pretty terrible. This watch is one that has proven itself to be definitively unique out of every other watch I've ever owned. When I got this watch, the first things I noticed about it were the clear references to motorsports - the tire tread pattern on the inside of the band, the bewheeled, helmet-and-goggle-wearing "Mudman" engraved on the case back, and the dual stopwatches for tracking split times. This seemed to be an eager invitation to use this watch as it was clearly intended, so I did. It went mountain biking, go-karting, drag racing, and for spirited drives on mountain roads in an old 90's sports car, and did its job perfectly. I was able to use the stopwatches to track and record lap and split times for friends on the track, as well as to keep generally accurate times for myself while mountain biking and driving. I say generally accurate because the buttons are very stiff to begin with, and one's hands are usually occupied for a few seconds during the start and finish of a lap. That said, the buttons to start and stop the timers are big enough to be actuated with gloved hands but will require some getting used to due to their unusual stiffness. It's not a watch you can treat gently, its design demands that you be assertive and tough when operating it to get the best from it. Speaking of the design, it's one of the most original in the vast world of digital watches. It's a standout design, even among the wide variety of unique G-Shocks. The pictures on the listing make it look larger than it really is, on the wrist it is light, rigid, and has a profile lower than even the DW-6900 making it easy to wear under a cuff. There is a part of the design that some have complained about, which are the raised nubs on the resin shroud on the bottom of the watch. They say that these can cause irritation to the skin due to rubbing, and while this does likely happen for some it has not been an issue for me after several months of wearing it. The clasp on the band is metal, which definitely adds to the level of confidence I have in the overall durability of the watch. I have noticed however that the strap retainer doesn't grip the band very well and frequently slips out, which causes me to catch the wayward strap on my clothes and on machinery - which while annoying, is just something I've learned to be mindful of as it's a small issue compared to how great the watch is overall. In summary, this is an excellent watch and I recommend it highly to anyone who enjoys any sort of motorsports, mountain/road biking or running. The water resistance is higher than the majority of us will ever need, the readability and illumination is among the best Casio has to offer, and the design is unique, attractive and highly functional. I give it a 9.5 out of 10, with the -.5 being due to the issue with the strap retainer and the fact that sometimes the watch can be hard to read in the daytime due to the depth at which the display is set within the face of the watch. The bezel is set very high, and sometimes this can cast a shadow over the display making you have to adjust the angle of the watch to read it when in direct sunlight. Other than that, this watch is an amazing value at this price, you will be getting much more than your money's worth.

The first impression is that it is super robust, with a very resistant design to shocks and dirt. The screen looks clear, even in low light conditions, thanks to automatic lighting. In addition, the water resistance up to 200 meters makes it ideal for any aquatic activity. As for comfort, it is super light and adapts well to the wrist.

I got this today in the mail and I must say that I am impressed with the quality of this watch, as with most G-Shocks. It has a smooth, resin exterior, with a slightly concealed steel rim and red buttons. It looks and feels like a very tough watch. It is not as super heavy in terms of weight, and if you enjoy activities such as swimming, rallying, fishing, climbing, scuba-diving, biking, hiking, and showering, this may be the watch for you. However...... If you do not like watches that look big, tough, and heavy duty, and would rather have a light outdoors watch, I recommend a Timex. The buttons are hard to push, and can be a pain for soft or weak fingers. I am only 13, so my wrist is small, but the watch still looks good on it. If you are concerned about the watch being too big, then you don't really need to worry. the size is good, but it is still a big, chunky-ish watch and you may not like that. The band will fit nicely on just about any wrist. The case is about 1.75 inches wide and .5 inches tall.The buckle strap is about 3.5 inches long and the loop strap is about 5 inches long. So again, if you do not like big watches, then don't by this one. Another thing that slightly bugs me is the inaccurate world time. I looked up world time on Google, and was amazed to see that most of it is incorrect. I have many friends overseas, and it is nice knowing when they can chat on Facebook, but I cannot rely on the world time for this. I have so far found no way to change this...but there probably is a way. So the watch does have a few icky bits but overall I still think it is a great watch. Here are good things about the watch.... Looks sweet and makes you look professional. It has four alarms is very handy for someone with a busy schedule. It fits well, and is very comfortable due to the engraving pattern on the strap. It has two stopwatches, a 1000 hour timer, and you can adjust the duration of the backlight. The illumination is very nice with an emerald green afterglow. It is very easy to adjust the time, and is pre-programmed until the year 2099, so you do not have to set the day. You can set the alarms to be every day, or on a certain day, or a date that is a few months away which is nice if you are a forgetful person. The feel and quality are very impressive for a a watch as affordable as this. The battery lasts 3 years, according to the manual. In the middle of the screen is a bar that shows you which alarms you have activated. The watch has a "Flash" indicator which means you can adjust the backlight to flash when the alarm goes off. Some of the 1-star reviews stated that the watch fogged up in humid climate, of malfunctioned and stopped working after a few days or months. This is because the watch had individual error, and does not apply to all of them...as G-Shocks are very well made. I bought this one specifically cause of the mud and dirt resistance....not sure if that applies to all G-Shocks. So if you are active, outdoorsy, adventurous, and like tough-looking things, this is the watch for you. If you are simple and in no need of something so large and bulky, then go get a timex

I have owned a couple GShock watches before and was only in the market for a new one because my last one was stolen at work. So I took the time to shop around for something I thought would suit me well for my very dirty and very active job. Upon first arrival I was worried the watch would be damaged, the box was pretty thin and kind of banged up. and I was still worried after opening the box because there really isn't much protective packaging on it. not even a film on the watch face. but after opening it (see video) everything looked just fine, the watch wasn't scratched or messed up at all. I've only had this thing for a week but it's already taken one hell of a beating. I work at Lowes in the garden center, lifting soil and block and watering plants. This watch has stood up to being covered in tree sap and pine needles. its been submerged in buckets of water and flooring mortar. it's been pinned in-between pieces of sod and raked against piles of mulch. And every time it gets a quick little rinse with the hose and good as new. not even a scratch on it yet. The time is easy to read in the light and in the dark the illuminator puts out plenty of light to see. I did find the buttons a little stiff but I prefer that settings dont unknowingly get adjusted. had watches in the past that shifted constantly between 12hr and 24hr formats by just lightly pressing a button. this watch won't do that to you. once you set it up, you won't have to go back and fix anything. I found the manual easy to use and didn't really have any trouble setting my preferences. The watch isn't overly large, in fact I would say it has a lower profile than the other GShock watches I've owned. it's also incredibly lightweight, which I was surprised by. as with any new watch its been adjusted several times to find that perfect setting on the band. couldn't be happier with my purchase

When I was a tanker in the Army, the only watch tough enough to take the abuse, keep working, and still look good doing it was a G-Shock. Unfortunately, I lost it and could not replace it since the model had been discontinued. In my civilian job as an Infrastructure Engineer, I have to spend a lot of time in construction zones and the parade of Fossil watches I've been wearing for years just wouldn't hold up to the environment. I looked into the G-Shock line, hoping to find a watch as dependable as the one I used in the Army, and found the G-Shock G9000 Mudman. I absolutely love this watch. I wear it all the time. It has two stopwatches, a countdown timer, 5 separate alarms, World Time, Dual Illuminator, and all the other typical features like hourly beep, day, and date. The countdown timer, which is probably my favorite feature, has a loop option where you set the time and after it counts down to zero and alarms you, it will also start over and repeat infinitely until you stop it. This is great for interval training, games, or any other reminder that needs to be repeated over and over. There are 5 alarms. 1-4 are fixed, where you set the time and each day at that time it will go off. I use all four of mine. I use the watch to wake me up, remind me when my work shift starts, remind me when my work shift ends, and lets me know when it is time for bed. This may sound odd, but I work from home and have a tendency to get really focused on things and let time fly, so I have set up these boundaries to keep things in order. The fifth alarm, which I don't use, actually has a snooze function and you have to turn it all the way off to end the cycle. I can see how people would like this, but I don't like it because you have to enable the alarm every day. If you forget to enable it, you're pretty much out of luck. The world time is pretty nice too. I have colleagues in multiple countries across Europe and Asia, so it is nice to be able to select the major city in their time zone and see what time it is. It saves the embarrassment of accidentally calling Moscow in the middle of the night or Singapore during breakfast. There are comments from other people about the buttons being stiff. This is true, the buttons are stiff, but they loosen up a little bit over time and let's be honest - this is a man's watch that is built to take a beating. If these buttons are too hard for you to push, you probably don't need the rugged durability of a G-Shock anyway. The appearance of the watch, in my opinion, is so much better than most of the other models Casio offers. Cleaning the watch is simple with soap, water, and a small scrub brush. I will warn any potential buyers that pool water will produce a gray film on the the plastic surfaces of the watch. As long as you wash the watch with soap and water shortly after getting out of the pool, that film will go away and not return. I don't know what would happen if you waited to clean the watch, but I wouldn't do that, just in case the film becomes permanent over time. I highly recommend this watch. If you want a G-Shock, this one should make you very happy.

I'm not guite happy with this purchase. The photos showed a watch that came in a cool tin. the watch I got was in a flimsy cardboard generic box with half broken plastic watch holder.All those was packed on just plastic bag.From US to Czech is way too long journey and yes,this package was lil bit destructed when I took it.Watch itself was very good and tough build,BUT........those buttons are realy stiff, I mean if you want use stopwatch, you cannot be accurate, not with this type of watch.Mud resist,water resist,shock resist are nice things but when you need to press button on right time,you will not for sure.Whole my journey with G-9000 ended and I returned back to Amazon.Thats why just 3 stars....watch good,buttons are unuseable on time.One star down for package quality, one for buttons.
