My Book of Subtraction (Kumon Workbooks)

Great for math fluency.

My five year old has been able to work his way through this easily on his own!

All Kumon worksbook are great and keep the kids interesting and happy to work in them with not noticed they are learning!😃

We are fans of Kumon workbooks. This is just another one of their wonderful products. Fun and challenging for children.

Like most of these Kumon books, I found it does a great job for review and practice. They do not do a very good job at "teaching" the concepts. You will still need to do a bit to get your child to understand the what/why of the problem. The best thing is that the progress slow enough that kids never seem to get stuck and lose interest!

It's a good book to start with. It has basic subtraction without regrouping

One more of KUMON series I have bought for my twin girls, who are now moved to Year one and are 5.5 years old.This book covers subtraction within 1-20 range, so it goes beyond 'finger counting' and requires some level of abstraction to understand.A personal observation -- this type of problem can be solved just by mastering a technique (that is, in case of 18-14 you first subtract 10 and then 4) without actually understanding what you are doing. Do not take for granted that if your child completed the book he or she really understand the meaning of subtraction of numbers > 10 or even subtraction itself. I have noticed this with my daughters -- one really 'got' it, other just 'mastered the rules'. The downside of the second approach, of course, if any deviation from the script leads to the total confusion.So you really have to supplement this book with some explanations and personal interaction. Even asking to solve one or two problems on the way to school helps.
