Fast, efficient and perfect for a new build
Picked this up in May to go into the PC build I did with my youngest daughter (fair’s fair, her sister had hers before). The Ryzen 7 9700X slotted straight into the AM5 board without fuss and has been rock solid ever since. Performance is superb – 8 cores and 16 threads make light work of everything we’ve thrown at it so far, from schoolwork to games. It boosts up quickly and stays cool, especially paired with a decent aftermarket cooler (worth noting this one doesn’t come with one in the box). Power efficiency is good too – 65W means it’s not guzzling power or generating loads of heat, which makes life easier when you’re aiming for a quiet build. All told, a fantastic CPU for the price bracket. Reliable, quick and future-proof enough that I don’t expect we’ll be touching it for years.

Powerful, modern CPU.
The AMD Ryzen 7 9700X is an outstanding example of how far desktop CPUs have come, delivering a near-perfect balance of raw performance, efficiency, and long-term value. Built on AMD’s latest Zen 5 architecture, this processor is designed for users who want high-end performance without stepping into extreme power consumption or pricing. One of the biggest strengths of the 9700X is its efficiency. AMD has significantly improved performance per watt, allowing the CPU to run cooler and quieter compared to previous generations and many competitors. This makes it a great choice for my compact build or users who value low noise and reduced power draw, lower heat, without sacrificing speed. Very good for gaming without the price tag of an X3D model. Fitted straight in to my AM5 mobo with ease using the arrow.

Worth the time if you are willing to tinker
The AMD Ryzen 7 9700x is a fantastic processor. Now is it good as the 7000x3D, counterparts? No it’s not, but it does keep up well and the differences can be quite minimal from my experience. The CPU, runs cool and boosts well. Additionally has a much better memory controller than its, 7000 series counterparts. So you can achieve stable and coherent ram overlock. Mine is stable at 7000 MTS. Which is blazing fast, and with the faster ram you notice a sizeable difference in FPS. Additionally, it works well with a range of GPUs. I currently, use a RTX 4080 Super. They appear to be happily working together. I have tested it with an RX 7700XT and above. I will say the con is the price, but it will undoubtedly drop in price. Overall I really like this processor, works well and does what you need it to do. I will advise, that you will need to enable PBO in the motherboard bios to get the full potential of this chip or any 9000 series chip. But there are plenty of YouTube tutorials that can support with that. I hope this mini review helps and clears up some of the mystery of the 9000 series chips.

Great cpu
I'm very happy with this cpu. It works perfect with my 5070ti ( 0 bottleneck) It's easy to install. The only thing I don't like about them is the cut design they have. It really makes you anxious when you apply thermal paste on it. Overall great cpu

Good Cpu
First off, this cpu isn't half bad. When looking for good performance that can handle any game (with the right gpu) this cpu can be sufficient. It's only when you compare this cpu to it's predecessor and the x3ds that buying this cpu doesn't make a lot of sense. When you take into account other cpus, like the Ryzen 7 7700X, priced at around 260 ish, buying this cpu doesn't make a lot of sense. This is because, for the most part, straight out of the box the Ryzen 7 7700X (the predecessor) performs on average the same, if in some cases slightly better. At around 50ish gbp cheaper. Now, as far as I'm aware the whole reason why this cpu was actually released was beacause of the negative reviews AMD recieved for the 7000s series being so hot. This cpu does keep it cool, drawing only 65 W from straight out of the box, which matches the performance of the 7700X. Now, there is a feature that enables you to draw more power to the cpu, if you enable the pbo option in the BIOS. When you do this, the cpu performs (I think around 10-15% better) then it originally did. This is good as it gives it a significant performance increase, which (I think) outperforms it's predeccesor. However, this does make the cpu run hotter, maybe not as hot as the Ryzen 7 7700X, but still in the mid 70s to the mid 80s (from what I've tested - Cinebench r24). Now should you buy this cpu? If the price stays at around 300 gpb, then personally, unless you use the feature that enables more power to be drawn, then I'd stick with the Ryzen 7 7700X as you're getting roughly the same performance for cheaper. (You would have to do a bit more research into the performance difference after you draw more power, compared to the Ryzen 7 7700X). If the price drops to the same price as the 7700X, then I'd say go for it, it's all around a good cpu and it's more efficient in power and core usage (I think) for a decent price. If you wanted to gain the best performance (exluding the 9800x3d, if you can find one then I'd get one of those instead lol) then I'd say spend the extra 100gpb ish and get the 7800x3d, it also has the 3d cache which will help future proof your system. In conclusion, this is a good cpu but I don't think it's particularly good value, as you can definetly find better deals on the 7700X and the 7800x3d, which perform the same or better in games, but all round, this cpu is good and does perform well (it just doesn't really fit in). EXTRA: I've also read that the RAM speed compatibility on this cpu is better than the 7700X, as overclocking your speeds is more stable when using the 9700X, which can be useful for many reasons.

Great CPU and keeps up with the best
Bought this a while back. But wanted now to share my thoughts after extensive use and testing ..my thoughts are: excellent CPU. Does everything I need it to and has never once ran into any issue. Definitely worth the money

A get just 3-5 less then the 9800X3D in Pathtraced games and in Last of US 2 i got 18 fps more and 28fps more with PBO enabled. This CPU saved me 2300 SEK by switching from the X3D and still I have an RTX5080.

In gioco mantiene FPS stabili, mentre in ambito produttivo risponde sempre in modo pronto. Ottima CPU per chi sta assemblando un PC nuovo e vuole prestazioni elevate con consumi ridotti. Consigliata senza esitazioni per gaming e produttività.

UPDATE: I'm still very satisfied with the CPU. It works really well and holds its performance. However, this CPU is not recommended for Battlefield 6. I have a CPU bottleneck since release. That being said, many Ryzen CPUs have a CPU bottleneck in BF6 which is utterly disappointing. The RTX 5070 in 1440P uses 80% while the CPU uses 50% and when following the enhanced overlay metrics, the frames calculated by the CPU are consistently lower than by the GPU. Around 15%-20% lower. I don't think that's the fault of the CPU as even top tier like the 9800X3D experience issues, but rather the game itself. I still recommend the CPU but if you wanna play a lot of Battlefield 6 you might want to look for Intel CPUs. I built my new computer and went with the 9700x. While this CPU has received not the best reviews it's a great CPU. When it comes to gaming the 9700X3D is king followed by the 7800X3D. However, in Canada the prices are so inflated that it ain't worth the additional $150 for the 7800X3D unless you really have money to spend or play competitive. I paired this beauty with an 840P Mainboard that I got on sale for $177. It's a good combo. It has no issues supporting 48GB of 6000Mhz Ram running consistently at 6000 MHz. I'm using my computer for work and gaming. The 9700x is a fast CPU for all sorts of productivity like coding, processing, editing and office work. Gaming performance is great. Paired with RTX 5070 this makes it a great combo. A much faster GPU might lead to bottleneck, but if you pay $2000 for a GPU I'm sure you can afford a better CPU too. I usually prefer Intel and prices for a 14700KF or 265KF Ultra are somewhat similar to the AMD. AMD Mainboards are easily $50-100 cheaper. On top Intel's 14xxx series has up to this day issues with overheating. Compared to the Ryzen 9700X whose performance is slightly below the 14700k it runs very cool and is extremely power efficient. AMD also added two new modes 95W and 105W power mode can be selected in BIOS. AMD extended warranty for higher Watt modes which is very consumer friendly. I went with the 105W for now and paired with a Peerless Assassin 120 it runs at max 75 degrees while gaming. I'm very satisfied with the 9700X. I'm usually an Intel user but AMD delivered here. For someone who had a i5 10600k before it's a big upgrade. An upgrade from a Ryzen 7700x or Intel's 13th gen seems unnecessary as the performance gains are marginal. I understand the X3D hype but the X3D CPUs are consistently slower in productivity yet excel in gaming performance. With overclocking and fast RAM the 9700X gets pretty much the same performance as the 7800X3D for less money. I'm extremely satisfied with my purchase and the 9700X offers excellent value for money and strikes the perfect balance between gaming and productivity performance.
