Review from gift recipient
The B-4E ESP bass meets all my expectations and then some. The Ebony top, finger board and neck-thru-bodydesign give this bass a super tight feel. The mahogany back provides the warmth on the low end that I need forthe heavier tunes. ESP has put together a great versatile bass that I'll never give up.I can talk about playability, tone and craftsmanship all day. I can throw out star after star. Ultimately however, itboils down to passion. If I were a serial killer, this bass would be my prized 12" blade, sharpened with care and loveto do a job that comes from the love of the kill.Seriously, If this bass had a moist hole, I'd never leave the house! Thanks to Total Music Source for making my passion a reality in such a professional and timely manner. The Bass arrived safe and sound in perfect condition.

Beautiful guitar
It is a beautiful guitar. The ad shows pictures of two different guitars. Two with the mahogany body with ebony top and two with the mahogany body, no ebony top. I received the mahogany/ebony.The guitar looks awesome. It definitely has a plucky P bass sound. If you're looking for a warmer jazz tone, this is not the guitar for you. The three band equalizer is nothing more than treble/mid/bass adjustment knobs. Other than that, there is a balance knob between bridge and neck pickups and a master volume control. Another reviewer cited the lack of adjustability despite the active pickups. These are not active pickups, but the guitar does require a battery for the treble/mid/bass equalizer effects. The one thing I do wish they had done was put an easy access battery compartment. The battery compartment is nothing but a trough drilled out of the wood with a black plastic plate screwed over the top. If you need to change the battery (the guitar does not play without a battery) you have to have a small screwdriver to take the top off and it has a 9volt battery terminal you have to snap off and on to the battery. Would really prefer it if it had a compartment you could open with your finger and just slap a battery in without having to disconnect and reconnect the wire terminal.HOWEVER, for the price, it is a nice guitar, plays easily and looks awesome.UPDATE-having played this for a few days, I find that if you turn the treble down and balance it to the neck pickup, it softens the tone pretty well. . I do like the sound of this guitar and it's great for certain genres. If you can only have one guitar, may not have the versatility you need to play a wide variety of genres. But if you can have a multiple guitars, this is a very nice option.
