Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain : Betty Edwards: desertcart.in: Books Review: A superb book to give you the mindset for drawing - I read this book during my summer vacations (I am a school teacher). I used to read 4-5 pages everyday and do every exercise as mentioned. I was amazed at the speed of my progress. This book starts with teaching us the importance of drawing. It tells us how drawing- till the 19th century- was considered an utmost important part of education. Then it tells us about left brain and right brain. And then begins the basic components of drawins- perspective, values, proportion etc. Overall, I am truly happy with this book. I still do the exercises mentioned here. Review: Amazing - Amazing information and good to read.

If you are convinced you can't draw, pick this book up to be surprised
I was recommended this book by an artist I love. I haven't transformed from a drawing dud to Michaelangelo but this book truly taught me to see differently. And I can draw now if I put my mind to it. True story.

Good Book. Not so good print.
Giving one less star because of the print quality of the book I recieved. The contents of book are for sure invaluable since this book is one of the NewYork Times Bestseller and I have seen it in several artists' shelves. I recieved the book in a quite safe and strong packaging thanks to the seller - Land Of Books. However, the most important issue that I'd wanna mention is the print quality and paper material of this book that I recieved for an amazingly low price of INR 699 plus 120 for transit cost, a total of INR 819: 1. The book cover is quite thin and not of good quality. Slightly disappointed. 2. The print quality is quite low and absolutely subpar for the standards of an art book so popular in different cannons. In fact, sometimes it just fails to inspire the reader. I have attached some pics from my copy. 3. The size of book itself is small for the type of content it has to offer. I personally feel that the size has been scaled down in order to produce a budget friendly book. But now, I'd really like to pay for the book in bigger size (12") and high quality papers instead. 4. Page quality is good and it is mentioned as acid-free. But the thickness is quite low and feels that of a A4 size printer paper. You can see what's printed on the other side. Overall, the copy I recieved can be described only a step better than that of a new NCERT book. So, I can't say I got it in a cheap price. If you are looking for a budget friendly copy of this book then you are good to go. But if you are a beginner looking for inspiration in art, I'd say it is a big no. Go for a bigger size and good quality copy (similar to those of Andrew Loomis' book series. They are Good!) from highly rated sellers. You may have to spend a few more bucks though. All the best! EDIT: I had applied for return of the book and seller promptly accepted the request. Highly professional!

Unlock your creative powers!
I considered myself poor in drawing objects or people. This book changed my attitude. I can now draw anything easily. Most people don't realize that art improves your thinking abilities, a lot. And thanks to Amazon India, for fast shipping and cheapest price I could find for this book online.

Pretty good.
It is a very good book, it would have been good if the workbook was included. It starts with the basics and the mediums.

Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain might be the best drawing book ever. As a kid, I was really into art, but like most adults, I've long since lost those abilities. I picked up maybe a dozen books, bought online courses, and watched a ton of YouTube videos, and I felt like I understood so much of the theory of drawing, but nothing was translating to paper when I tried to actually re-create what was in front of me. But then I got this book. And a few days into it, I could suddenly draw. I could draw well. I could beautifully draw my left hand with my right hand. I could draw my cat tower. I could draw leaves and trees. WHAT. HOW. The crazy thing about this book is how well Betty gets in your head. After an exercise, she immediately calls out what probably went through your head, what actions you took, and *what feelings you felt.* She pointed out in one exercise how I probably grabbed a ruler at one point, but then put it down. She said I probably erased something and felt guilty about it. HOW DID SHE KNOW. The actual science behind left brain/right brain stuff is probably outdated. I mean, she wrote this book in the 1970s. Even with revisions, she's not going to re-write the whole book when the fundamental goal of the book is still super effective. The main purpose is to convey this message: your knowledge of what you *should* see is messing up your ability to *actually* see. Example: You expect a chair to have a big wide flat surface for sitting and four feet resting level on the floor, and that's making it impossible for you to draw the chair where your view shows a thin, awkward trapezoid for sitting and feet appearing at different heights because of how perspective works. The books is truly eye-opening and helpful. It's easy to read and fun and entertaining. I purchased the companion workbook, but honestly, that's not super necessary. Also prepare to make yourself a picture plane, so save the amazon box the book arrives in.

Seller was fast at getting the package to my girlfriend in Belgium who loves to draw. I wanted to show my support for her untrained talent and got her this book as I've read it was a solid book for beginners. She got it and watched her on skype started flipping pages like crazy almost forgot about me haha. It must be pretty good and informative, she was treating it like a special treasure after that. I'd totally recommend it to anyone interested in drawing and art. Thank you!
