Q: what's the difference between this and the E2D series?

This model is made more as an EDC light, with a thinner body for more convenient pocket carry.

Q: How does this compare to the tactician?

Don't own a tactician. But it's bright As Fook but throws a more wide beam. I feel like the streamlight hlx has a more focus beam for distance. Still not sure how I feel about the whole gas pedal switch though. Its cool for what it's for... A weapon light backup but as an edc utility light it sucks cuz you gotta rotate the tail cap. That takes two hands to do.

Q: Does the "constant on" use the 1200 lumen or 5 lumen setting, or both?

The constant on can be activated at either lumen setting. It all depends on how much you turn the end.

Q: Is there a good rechargeable battery option for this light?

I use olight rechargeable cr123s. Work great until it doesn't. I think the light or battery has a specific voltage it needs and if it dips below that the light won't dim it just shuts off.
