I made this purchase after I spent two weeks trying to cultivate a starter in a mason jar, only for it to grow mold and have to throw the whole thing out. It was my first time and I did not know how important the type of jar you use really was and the experience of having to clean it was nearly impossible due to the ridges. Leftover starter would crust on the edges and harbor bad bacteria to grow. Watching everyone online make it look super easy made me feel very discouraged and I almost wanted to give up and just say this wasn’t for me. I’ll just go buy some bread.BUT one night I was late night scrolling and saw this starter kit. The price and the way the jar seemed so much better for cleaning was alone enough for me to purchase. And when it arrived, I was pleasantly surprised to see that it came with so much more! The band with the time tracking is sooo helpful, as before I was just tracking times on my notes app. The stickers were nice and it came with a few so if they wash off the glass or you do a new starter you have plenty. The little helpful guide book it comes with is so cute and amazing, I can’t believe I revived all this for under $20.Above all, the cloth top was a game changer! In a week after following the instructions, my starter was bubbling and active. I truly believe this is a great purchase to help beginners. It would also be a fun gift for someone. The container is wide enough to fit your whole hand it to clean and scrape the sides. I would transfer the starter out and do a deep clean after a few days just so I wouldn’t make my first mistake of letting bad bacteria grow. Soaking it in warm water for at least a hour before scraping really helps. It was also really easy to store in the fridge with the rubber lid after I wanted to bake. I did make my first loaf, but due to my own fault I didn’t let it rise for long enough, and it came out too gummy inside. I think with a bit more practice, I will definitely have a yummy sourdough loaf!

High quality product and great customer service! I had a question as this was my first time making a starter and the response was so fast and helpful. The book that comes with it is very informative and has a lot of recipes, I just needed a little more clarification as a newbie. I made the discard sandwich bread recipe in the book and it came out Great!!! My starter is now ripe, can't wait to bake more bread! I highly recommend this product and the company. (I just ordered the bacon grease container too, super cute)

I like this item, but don’t buy it for what printed on the jar. I bought the kit and within a week, the measurements and wheat decal were very faded. I reached out to customer service and to their credit they were very quick and kind in their reply. They sent me a replacement within two days. However, while I was washing the replacement jar the ink started to come off on my hands. So the kit is great, but if you want the marks on your jar to last choose something else.

Absolutely love this product. I have been wanting to get into making my own sourdough for a long time and this has made it so simple for me to do it. I now have a strong base and find that it is easy to follow so I can keep my starter alive. Defiantly worth the money and would gift it to anyone I know who wants to start this journey as well.

The tools included are perfect, the big glass is my fav!And I love that there are TWO packs of starters!It comes with all you need!Their pamphlet alone is perfectly perfect in every way!I might buy a second set, just in case!Great Quality!Thank you for the best sourdough starter kits on Amazon!

First of all throw away the level tracking band,the baked goods info labels,and the starter pouch labels,the labels wash off,and the tracking band is just something else you have to scrub when your starter overflows and blows the cloth lid off,and it will overflow creating a concrete like substance all over everything on the outside of the jar.I suggest you put a dish or bowl under the jar to catch the mess when it erupts.The wheat shaped thermometer is also totally useless,it never worked for me.The jar and lids,and spatula are all well made but toss the rest.You also might want to consider a bigger container instead of this one to contain your starter.
