Q: Is it possible to cut the disc to a smaller size and still have it work properly?

Yes, it isn't ideal and does not work as well, but in a pinch it will hold. These hangers are best when proper sizes are used. Most important is to allow disc to dry overnight prior to hanging.

Q: Will it stick to metal trays? I tried last night and today it came right off the back of the tray. Did I do it wrong or does it not stick to metal?

I used it for my own metal-tray collection. It worked on some of the trays, but not on others. I guess it depends on the type of metal and the weight of the tray.

Q: How do you know what size to buy? Does the disc have to completely cover the bottom of the plate?

Q: Will these hang a light-weight wood and wicker 8" tray? The back of the tray is smooth/flat wood.

We have these holding up 8 inch ceramic plates so I think they could hold up a wood/wicker tray.
