Well written and unfortunately too few americans will read the book because it is written by a russian. Oh how we are still sometimes living in the 50's where there was a communist under every bed and behind every tree.

Deeply disturbing read, because Orlov has spotted the same things happening in many of the same places that I have over the last 40 years. He's up to date on the military aspects as well. I was encouraged about the financial and social turn-around in Russia. I hadn't realized before that shedding the twin albatrosses of the USSR countries leaching off Russia, and the Western despoliation from 1989 to 1996 would have such a positive effect. But in retrospect, given their high education standards and natural love of country the Russian people would do well given even half a chance. Like the author, I too have lived in one country, but gone back several times to the land of my birth, and seen shocking changes on each visit. In my case, those visits were to England, and the social decline since 1967 has been frankly appalling. Even the quality of lies told by politicians has declined. In the late 1950's the quality of lies was often sturdy, and it took years to understand how the truth was twisted. Now, with PM May, the lies have become a bag of springs thrown off the roof.

you might enjoy this book
I got this book expecting the sharp observations and dry wit I had noticed in an older book of Orlov's that i had read recently; instead, this appears to be 300 pages (or so) of rambling Russian propaganda, anti-woman, anti-gay, and anti-Ukrainian venom, and no actual analysis. If If you are a pro-Russian conservative straight white male, you might enjoy this book. I certainly did not.
