works great!
After endless reviews of humidifiers, i chose this one. Actually, i was getting quite frustrated and bought this one, feeling like they all stick and nothing is going to make me happy anyways. well, i was wrong. i chose this mid-price model and definitely got my moneys worth. i have been using it less than a month, but am very happy. it holds a gallon, but i use the mid-setting and the gallon lasts me two nights, plus a little extra. i found if i left it on the highest setting, the mist settled on my floor because i keep the room temperature too cold(which i need to sleep!)But even at the highest setting, it is very quiet. it has never leaked either. the only downfall is there is no automatic shut off. but for me, it doesnt matter. even after 2 nights(9-10 hours) there is some water in the reserve so i shut it off when i wake up. great buy in my opinion!

Smooth, Quiet and Dependable
I love when something is exactly what they promise! Right out of the box I had it up and running in minutes. I have had a scratchy throat and mucous build up before I got this. Since running it I am able to function without any scratchy throat and mucous is thinning to allow me to blow it out. I do videos daily and I was having trouble with my throat getting itchy and scratchy even after a few minutes. That stopped after running this system the same day. Update: I liked it so much I bought two. One for my upstairs office and one for my bedroom for sleeping. I am now able to clear everything. Almost no coughing. With winter and forced heat its a must have.

This unit has flaws, but Customer Service came through in the end
I have edited my initial review, and have upgraded my initial negative opinion and added a star to the review. After some delay Customer Service finally provided me with a replacement unit, so this is an update to the negative comments I made and have now deleted as unnecessary to this review. This item actually works OK, and produces a steady stream of humidified air; however, there are a few issues I've found with the unit that make it less than ideal. The fill plug on the bottom of the water tank becomes harder and harder to remove after a few fills. Those with limited hand strength will not be able to remove the plug without some sort of tool. Then there's the awkward way the water tank sits on a countertop while filling. The top is rounded and there is no way the tank will sit flat when turned upside down while filling, instead tilting and moving around. That makes it a bit difficult to fill, and I've spilled water in the process of filling several times.

1st impression: Highly pleased; 2nd impression; hate it!
I had a succession of ultrasonic humidifiers from Sharper Image over the years which were fabulous for conditioning a dry room for a singer. However, there were always two big drawbacks: (1) they'd leave white dust everywhere unless you used distilled water in them; and (2) if you let them run after the water emptied, it'd burn out the fan and then the unit would have to be replaced. However, ultrasonics are so much better for the voice than standard cool or warm humidifiers, so when Sharper Image recently stopped making this, I looked elsewhere and found the model above from Vicks. Since I know to use only distilled water, the dust thing isn't an issue. My initial impression was one of being very impressed by the significantly greater volume of cool mist it pushed out, and it did so essentially silently. Also it has a far greater storage capacity than the old Sharper Image model, so it needn't be refilled as often. That idyllic image lasted for my first two hours of use. Then I turned it off to go to lunch. When I turned it back on an hour later, surprise, surprise, no mist would come out. It just plain DIED! I then called the 800 number (which was staffed by some people who had absolutely no - I mean ZERO - prior familiarity with the product), and the only tip I got was from their voice mail which said to unplug the unit for one hour so it could "re-set" itself. I did so, but after replugging it, still no luck. Can't ANYONE make one of these that is reliable? Vicks sure hasn't.

Best we've ever had
Living in the single-digit humidity of Phoenix, we need a humidifier to sleep. We have gone through many different ones until we found this one. We have 4 of them, and they continue to shoot water into the air, easily emptying itself in 8 hours and putting humidity from 10-15% up into the mid-30% with second click setting, mid 40’s% with 3 clicks. The others vibrations slowly diminished over a few months, but these are lasting years with no reduction of water. We use RO water with 3 or 4 grains of Leslie’s ChlorBrite spa chlorine with every full fill. weekly so we haven't needed the blue cartridge. Update: have had in bedroom for 5+ years used nightly and transducer starting to get noisy. Others in other bedrooms and motor home used less and still perfect. Will replace with exact same unit. Another update Christmas 2023: Used same unit every night in master bedroom for yet another 2 years. Fantastic unit! Want 45% humidity so 1 click (from off) if 30% or above, 2 clicks if 20-29% and 3 clicks if <20% does the trick. On 3 or fewer clicks the water lasts 2 nights. Use RO water and a very small amount of spa chlorine (explained above) every refill and never slimy or dirty and lid seal is just as functional as it was 6-7 years ago. Forget the Vicks inset, but try essential oils on the pad after menthol runs out.

The Best!
We bought one years ago. It ran for many years. My husband was like shop around. I got on Amazon and was overwhelmed with so many to choose from. I ordered one and my husband uses it but does not particularly like it. So I went back to Amazon and searched for the same brand and type and found one just like the one we had! I ordered it and oh it made my husband so happy. It's so easy to use and clean. and does a great job even in our large living/dining room.

Dealing with manufacturer regarding defective unit. Excellant experience.
Purchased 2 of them in Oct. 2021. Only used during dry periods in the winter. Only use distilled water. Although purchased over a year ago, use has been far less than a half year. One of the units started buzzing this Christmas weekend, and barely pushed the vapor up the tube. Price in the meantime have almost doubled. Tell me why I should purchase this item again. Other unit is so far fine, but I am now nervous. Will be contacting the manufacturer in the morning. FOLLOWUP: Contacted the manufacturer the following morning. After a couple of support assisted fixes, the unit was determined to be defective. Manufacturer covered unit under warranty and a new one arrived in four days. Now that is Customer service! ! ! I would have been apprehensive at buying a replacement, but with the manufacturer standing behind their product, I would gladly invest in their product again. Kudos to the support assistant who was most professional, and personable at the same time.

Best one I've tried - decent. UPDATE: Stopped working in 2 months
Torn between 3 or 4 starts. It's noisier than claimed, but it seems like all humidifiers are. The noise is a hum so it might be tolerable in a bedroom. I use it in my living room. I also got the "Safety 1st" Ultrasonic humidifier and returned it because of a very unpleasantly high pitched noise that reminded me of my ears ringing. I preferred this one (lesser of two evils). My other complaint is that it is tough to not drip water when refilling it. It happens to me about half the time being very careful. The demineralization thing seems nice. It almost has a fresh smell to it. I haven't looked into replacement costs though. I've only been using it a few days so I can't say much about its durability. UPDATE: A couple days ago I noticed the fan getting louder. Now today it's not putting out any mist. Fan is still blowing (loudly) and air is moving through it but without the mist. We'll see how the company handles a warranty claim.
