ANSWER: Pearls range from 6mm-8mm on average but can be a bit smaller or larger. QUESTION: What color pearl should I expect to get out of my oyster(s)? ANSWER: There is no way to know what color you will get out of an oyster just by looking at the oyster itself, but we've seen variations of white, cream, pink, lavender,, black, and other variations of shades. Every pearl is unique! QUESTION: Are all pearls round? Are there ever surface marks? ANSWER: Most pearls are round, but it is very rare to find a perfectly round, blemish free, pearl. You may find pearls that aren't quite round or have slight surface marks. It is all part of the cultured pearl process! Remember every pearl is unique! QUESTION: Where do Akoya oysters come from? ANSWER: Akoya oysters are cultured oysters that are farmed in Japan and China. QUESTION. How can you guarantee that every oyster will contain a pearl? ANSWER. As with all cultured pearls, these beautiful specimens require a pearl farmer to nucleate an oyster. During the nucleation process, the pearl farmer opens the oyster and inserts an irritant - in this case, it's usually a hard-shell bead and mantle tissue from an oyster that has produced a high quality pearl in the past - between the oyster's soft tissues and its shell. QUESTION: Do the oysters stink. ANSWER: The oysters have been preserved and have very little smell. QUESTION. Are the oysters edible. ANSWER. Do NOT eat your oyster. Adult supervision is required.
