Brilliant Bronte Book - very accessible

A very well researched and accessible book for anyone who wants to learn more about Charlotte Bronte. Having only read two Bronte books prior to buying this I found It added to my enjoyment of the third book. This is a great book to read and would be helpful for those studying the Bronte family but it isn't so heavy that it isn't facinating to those who aren't. I would definitely read more by the author. Thanks for writing it.

Fantastic read offering new insight.

A genuinely fascinating and fresh insight into Charlotte Bronte, and a highly enjoyable read. Offers a critical rethinking of what we think we know about Charlotte, taking into account new research and reappraising old myths. It made me reassess my views of Charlotte, and all the Brontes, and has inspired me to read more of her work and re-read 'Jane Eyre' with these new views in mind. It's a very engaging read, which will interest both academic and non-academic readers alike - and genuinely funny in many places! Overall, a fantastic, enjoyable read offering the reader so much to think about.

A good overview but a bit shallow

There is a lot in this book for both newcomers to the writer, and also for those who have read other material around Charlotte herself and her family. I liked how she took different themes and dealt with them chapter by chapter, and she tackles and doesn't shy away from topics like Charlotte's conservatism. However, I found it a bit lightweight, given that the author is an academic specialising in 19th century literature - do we really need comparisons to Game of Thrones or Harry Potter? I found the tone a bit too light, and the book itself is quite short, I had it read in a day.

A must read for any Charlotte Bronte fans!

This book was a fascinating and much needed biographical account of Charlotte Bronte's life and works. It offered fresh critical insight into one of literature's most loved authors. I particularly liked learning about Charlotte's childhood and the insight into the worlds created by Charlotte and her siblings and that influence on her later life. The book is also filled with really interesting insights into Charlotte's relationship with feminism and the super-natural among others. An accessible, engaging and enjoyable book! A must read for any Bronte lover!

I love the sentiment

I love the sentiment, but work perpetuates romantic moorland myth of Charlotte's endless isolate roaming. In fact 'new' cohesion, of 21st c. reveals Charlotte never walked the moors, and only visited legendary 'Bronte Falls' (favourite place of Emily, Branwell, Anne and Ellen Nussey- the 'Moorland Four'), when Arthur carried her in 1855. No mention of 1834, 'Bolton Abbey', the social explosion, or the momentous preceding event abroad the revered lawns escorted by enigmatic host 'E' 1833. All events and aspirations of next decade flourished from that fabulous summer day.
