Review: The thing I like most about this book is that as the author states it's designed to give you small projects to add to your lifestyle to make you self sufficient. This book gives detailed instructions to help anyone began projects that help each of us meet needs from getting water to much more advanced projects, like wind and solar power. As someone who often struggles with just reading instructions and being able to picture the process, I found the instructions and pictures in this book easy to understand and follow. I really appreciate the information on the 3 bucket Bio-filter system fascinating and something I'd like to use, along with the information on outdoor cooking options and some of the gardening options. This book covers many topics and is full of information but not exhaustive necessarily on specific topics, this would be impossible in one book. I think the author's encouragement to leave reviews and information are also to add to this. I think a Facebook page, website or group might be a good resource for more of this after people have read the book. There is A LOT of good information in this book and I highly recommend it. I will say some information like hand drilling a well is very regional and would not work in my region. For instance where wells are often 500ft or more, yet other parts of the water collection and purification are very helpful here. In the area of trash disposal as someone who lives in a rural area, some additions to this is burn barrels , recycling especially plastics. Most trash collection places have a free option to drop off recyclables. The herb section is good though including which parts of each herb used would be additional helpful. I know the author recommends getting plant identification guides for your region so this maybe kept more simple for this reason. This book has information for those with the money to invest on major projects and yet many simpler projects for this of us on much more limited resources! This books is a great source to keep on hand since none of us may know when the information maybe needed!

This is yet another excellent preparation guide from Nash! I believe this book (and others by him) provide exceptional guidance for all manner of preparation. And what makes learning from him so agreeable is the conversational style — edifying knowledge presented as if a friend is sharing it.I review this one from the perspective of being a strong female, though not necessarily with any particularly developed skills when it comes to building and using tools. And, even I, benefit from this book. Some of its topics I've already done for my family, and I was pleased to see them covered as I think everyone should be considering these matters — and others I learned. There are so many topics it would be perfect for a family (or individual) learning to prepare, survive off-grid, or just enhancing their already rural lifestyle living. From well-preparation to hunting, to gardening and more, it addresses the daily needs we have.I found the Cooking Off-the-grid chapter, Health and Hygiene, and the Building Your Defenses very instructive for my needs. He really covered more than I've seen others do in self-defense including matters I've already done and some to think about implementing; I was surprised pleasantly to see them in his book. Health and Hygiene is a priority and one in which I have the skills to implement. The water resources and food subjects were very inclusive. The advice he provides is beyond just the details of construction, it includes his wisdom — which is valuable.Whether you're a lady like me, or a knowledgeable man, you'll likely learn much from this book. I think it covers the basics in such adequate detail that an individual or a couple (for example) could build a good set-up; it will help any of us be more able to cope and perhaps thrive in whatever events beset us in this uncertain world/society.This book covers such a wide variety of topics, it is one that provides a basis for all one is doing to be prepared for the unknown. I highly recommend it.
