Terrific shaver at a sensible price
I had been using the Braun shavers from the 7 Series through the 9 Series and thought they were the best shavers, albeit with a very high price tag. I noticed with the 9 Series in particular a very poor build standard. I dropped the razor onto a bath mat and it broke the on/off mechanism and there was no online help on how to fix it. I decided to give up on Braun and try Amazon's Pick instead, and am I ever glad I did. This razor is whisper quite, works very well and is super easy to clean and it costs one quarter of the price of the Braun. My only disappointment is it requires a USB adapter to plug it in, which is not supplied.

Great First Electric Razor – Smooth Shave, Less Irritation
Got this for my husband’s first electric razor, and he’s been really impressed. He now uses it daily and hasn’t touched his straight blade since. It gives him a close, smooth shave and has significantly reduced the skin irritation he used to get with traditional razors. The wet/dry feature and included travel pouch and charging stand are added bonuses. A great choice for anyone looking to switch to electric for convenience and comfort.

Smooth Comfortable Shave
Close is close. In other words, the 3900 provides a close shave without irritation. In order to do that, there has to be a trade-off and that trade-off is in the degree of closeness (i.e. any closer and there would undoubtedly be irritation). In effect, you are getting a close shave that is extremely comfortable. The rounded heads are different than the pentagonal heads on the top-of-the-line Norelcos. I have the new Prestige which has these pentagonal heads and can attest to the fact that there is a learning curve to use the shaver correctly. With the 3900's three round heads, it is far easier to shave under the nose. In addition, the 3900 has the older style handle which is more ergonomic than the newer Norelco styles (5000, 7000 and 9000 series) and as a result it is a bit thicker in girth providing a better, more comfortable grip. This can be a blessing, particularly if your hand is a bit arthritic, as is mine. Shaving with the 3900 takes me about 6 minutes most days and provides a decent shave without breaking the bank due to its much lower cost. In addition, when it is time to purchase new blades, the cost of those is half of what my Prestige blades run which leaves me with a smile on my face. I think for most men, the 3900 will prove a user-friendly shaver that delivers a shave that is "good enough". I highly recommend it. As a p.s.: it is my view that most of the one-star reviews come from men who simply do not know how to use a rotary shaver. Start with small, circular, anti-clockwise motions rather than the straight motions needed for a foil shaver. Once you have covered the shaving area (face and neck), only then revert to straight and lateral motions being careful not to apply too much pressure. Use the hand not holding the shaver to pull the skin or stretch it. There is no need for a pre-shave although it won't hurt. When you're done, just rinse the shaver under the tap, open it up and leave it to dry on the counter.

My go to Shaver
It has probably been about 20 years since I last owned a Norelco shaver. Back then there was a major issue with inferior replacement heads making the shavers virtually useless. Since then, I have owned expensive razors from both Braun and Panasonic. Braun's cleaning system became a major pain and ultimately, the shave I was getting was not very good. The Panasonic Arc razor operates at such a high rpm, it tends to irritate my skin and its shave is subpar. I was recently traveling, and I figured I would buy an inexpensive shaver for the trip. I chose the Norelco 3900. This razor has blown me away. It does an amazing job. Very close shave and incredibly comfortable. You barely feel it working. This is now my everyday shaver. I'm only sorry I waited so long to go back to Norelco. I hope their replacement heads have improved.

Quality, fun to use shaver
I've seen this style of shaver in movies and such while growing up. You know, the guy shaving in the car while stuck in traffic late to work? What a time saver I thought. But I always went with some form of safety razor for precision and closeness. After 30 years or so of seeing rotary shavers in ads, movies etc, and excellent results with other Philips Norelco products, like the vacuum beard trimmers they used to make. I figured the tech on the rotary razor is super refined by this point and wanted to try one. Even if it sucked, I knew I could use it at least on occasion to get a head's start if I was in a rush.I got the 3600 because when I went to the brand website, it was one of this year 2024's releases. And I knew I wanted the latest engineering greatness. Also this one came with a pouch, which is nice. If you look at all of their shavers that look like this, there's not a whole lot of difference other than 5D vs 4D heads, the product color, and whether or not it comes with a pouch, stand, or both. Look closely, some of them the only difference from one to another is that for $20 more you get a charging stand.Anyway, I got this one because it's a newer release, comes with a pouch, and I figure 5D means slightly more efficient or faster shaving. I haven't compared but I wouldn't think twice about any of their other shavers. I would expect a similar experience with any of them. The shaving experience is very nice, the rotary razors glide over my face like butter. I should note that I use the Lectric Shave splash first, which dries fast and then I dry shave over it. I like this a lot more than shaving in the shower with shaving cream, as I do with safety razors. The problem shaving wet with this is unless there is some lubrication on your face at all times, there is no glide with this electric razor. I imagine this is true for any rotary razor but, my experience is best dry with the splash first - no water. This works great to quickly and painlessly clean up your scruff, but if you haven't shaved in a few weeks it's probably better to start with a beard trimmer, as it seem like it would be quite a chore to weed whack a beard with this.Compared to the travel foil shavers I have from Bruan and Panasonic, I find that the Philips Norelco rotary does a better first pass, and the foil shavers do a better second pass or refining. With with the rotary/foil combo I can get a shave about the same as I would with a safety razor.Anyway, very cool and fun to use. Really my favorite part is the sensation itself of massaging my face with the rotary part. It doesn't feel like I'm shaving at all, more like massaging my face, which is so nice.
