Yes I am using this to carry a large bible and other study books. It measured 4.33 inches across the bottom.

Q: How strong are the handles on the tote?

The handles are pretty strong. I've had the bag now for a bit now and have thrown in water bottle , wallet and a couple of things like Keys and cellphone, so I'd say it's pretty sturdy. I wouldn't risk putting heavier items in it.

Q: Can this hold a 15" laptop?

My Macbook Air is 13, it fits well and there is still plenty of room. 15 might be pushing it a bit.

I am in LOVE with this bag!

The media could not be loaded. It’s good quality. Holds my 13 inch laptop and a bunch of other things. Definitely more spacious than I thought it would be. 10/10 would recommend! Oh and there was a gun holster in there 😂 random but I guess it would be good for women who live in gun states
