I bought the large for my son who lifts weights and usually wears a large and a 44" jacket. He's 6' 4". The jacket has no "give" so we went up to an XL which worked great. He's usually wearing a sweater or long sleeve t-shirt underneath so I'm not sure about a hoody but I believe a lightweight hoodie should be fine.
