i was wrong (in a good way)
i'll admit i was unsure about this, originally i was looking for a sterling (heat engine) powered fan, more as an interesting item than for any benefit but unfortunately we haven't got enough room above our stove so i was left considering an electric unit. given i wasn't very optimistic that a fan this size would produce a noticeable effect i decided to go for this item from round wood trading over other apparently identical products being sold by other retailers for higher prices, purely because i wouldn't be wasting so much money.well i was wrong !!!firstly i was pleased to find that if anything the stated minimum operating temp of 68 C is slightly pessimistic, it's only a matter of minutes after lighting the stove, when it's still just warm to the touch, that the unit starts to function.secondly, despite producing what appears to be a low volume of slow moving air, this fan certainly spreads the heat, when you enter the room from the corner furthest from the stove, the temperature is sufficiently higher than before for visitors, unaware of the fan, to comment how warm the room is as oon as they enter. I've experimented by leaving the door from the room to the hall and stairs open and the rest of the house is also showing an increase in temperature compared to before when we relied on natural convection and air movements to spread the heat.so far i can't comment on if we're using less wood, but we are enjoying a warmer room and a house that's warmer before any other heating's switched on.i'd recommend it for anyone, especially if like us your stove is sited in an old fireplace and has a pocket of hot air formed around it

Absolutely brilliant - it's transformed the comfort of our living room
We bought this dinky little fan because we have an odd-shaped room, and one end of it was always chilly in cold weather even when the rest of it was uncomfortably hot.Astonishingly, this silent and very gentle device manages to distribute warmth to places it had never been before, without creating a perceptible current of air. In addition, we're able to burn the stove much more economically while maintaining a comfortable temperature in the whole of the room. If it all gets a bit too hot, removing the fan cools things down within a few minutes. If all this seems too good to be true for a relatively cheap item, it did to us, too. It's a pleasure to be able to unreservedly recommend such a simple but effective solution.

Nicely surprised
I'm a bit confused why some people seem to think this device brings no benefits. We've found that it makes a huge difference to the heat distribution in the room (approx 5m x 7m). Admittedly I was sceptical the first day I tried it as it's hard to feel much air movement from the fan… you certainly don't get a breeze. What you do get is a gentle movement of air. More than this would cause complaints from my wife who hates too much air movement. My biggest surprise was that the claims I thought to be slightly suspect regarding saving money (from reduced fuel usage), do seem to be true! It seems that as the fire dies down to a point where we'd normally start to feel a bit chilly and pile on some more logs or coal, the fan still pushes warm air from the stove and you get the benefit of the still hot, but cooling stove. More than this though, because the warm air is more evenly distributed through the room, we found that the room is comfortable at a slightly lower temperature.I would definitely recommend this product.

Simply genius!
I was skeptical at first, not about the product, but because our stove is built into the old fireplace with little room around it - probably just enough to physically fit the fan, but wasn't sure about the airflow being right for it to work. Another reviewer said theirs was the same and it worked a treat, so I decided to risk it.I'm glad I did! It starts up almost as soon as the fire is established, and soon speeds up enough to produce a gentle warm air flow you can feel billowing out of the fireplace. Even after the fireplace has warmed up, it still functions well, despite the much warmer air now flowing around it (it needs to maintain a difference in temperature to generate the power, as you'll know by now).Round Wood Trading dispatched quickly and it arrived well before the estimated delivery. Came in simple but secure 100% recyclable package.I notice one reviewer says that two fans would be even better. It's worth thinking about! especially as the price on Amazon is better than I've seen elsewhere.

Prepare to be amazed
I was a little sceptical about this product but bought it based on good reviews. What I didn't realise is that it requires a very high heat to function. Our wood burner also heats the hot water so has a jacket of water around it stopping the outside getting very hot. Once the hot water reaches the chosen temperature the heat is diverted to the radiators. However our wood burner does have a small hotplate on the top that does get quite hot and this is where I placed this fan.Our living room is long and open-plan with a kitchen at one end (12 metres x 6). The house is 600 years old and built of solid granite. The wood burner is at one end in a grand fireplace. The kitchen area used to have a low counter height wall dividing it from the living area. We removed this wall along with the radiator that was on it some years ago and as a result the kitchen part has always been a bit too cool (uncomfortably so at times) relying on the heat reaching it from the two remaining radiators in the living area.We have been using this fan for a couple of months and are amazed at the fact that the kitchen area is now consistently at the same temperature as the rest of the room. We have a thermometer at either end that confirms this. The fan is completely silent and requires no electrical power whatsoever. I don't really understand how it is working but it most definitely does.Highly recommend this product.
