This gateway has been rock solid so far. Setup with HA was quick, it paired easily with other Shelly devices, and the connection has been stable. It bridges Bluetooth sensors to Wi-Fi reliably and integrates cleanly with the Shelly app and other smart home platforms. Small, simple, and does exactly what it’s supposed to do.

Justwhat I needed to upgrade my Home Assistant! Easy setupand integrated flawlessly!

I have a lot of ble temperature sensors around the house and was using both native bluetooth on my intel nuc running HAos and also another bt dongle connected via usb/ethernet extension; but with 3 floors on the house needed another bluetooth gateway. There are plenty of esphome projects to do this, but was impatient and didn't want to wait for m5 stack atoms I have ordered to come, so took a chance on the shelly gateway with next day arrival. It took a few tries to get this set up onto my network. My last shelly products were natural gas sensors I set up for local control ages ago and control directly from ip address so I hadn't loaded the app in forever. I opened shelly app to be prompted to install the new shelly app as that one is discontinued. The new app found the gateway immediately once set to scan BT but failed repeatedly to bring it onto the network despite several resets. Finally I went with the alternate route in the instructions which is to pair to its own setup wifi network on your phone and configure from there in a browser. Once I had done that, I reloaded the app and locked the device to its own ip address. Turned off cloud control for the device and removed the app. Home Assistant found the device right away (it popped up on my computer screen while I was deleting shelly app. Configured device for passive scanning (you would want it set to active if using shelly buttons or motion detectors or something like that; for ble sensors, passive is fine). To test that the device was actually pulling data from sensors, I moved it (its a usb stick that plugs into any usb charging brick, its not battery powered) to rooms that had sensors in it far away from the nuc and saw the rssi drop dramatically on next scan. For best usage and aggregration, I positioned the gatway in a recessed outlet in by the 2nd to 3rd floor stairs. Checked data on bluetooth devices the next day and found much better readings for all devices, HA charts were showing mean/median for all devices instead of single readings. This lead me to believe the secondary plugged in bt adapater is conflicting with the built in nuc bluetooth. Despite both being installed and configured it seems only one or the other works (probably why HA recommends mqtt/wifi gateways for bluetooth). I may purchase another so I have gateways on all 3 floors (nuc basement, shelly 1st floor, shelly 2nd floor) and reused the esp devices that eventually will come from china to another project.

Although it connects with Home Assistant, I do not see it working as a BLE extender. Moreover, it only works in passive mode. Supposedly folks have wrestled with this item attempting to update firmware and only to fail miserably. Connecting to their internal web interface to configure it is slooooooow and adding to the frustration. So rather than waste my time dealing with this fob, I am going with an ESP32 device that offers the functionality I was led to believe this device has. Shelly, it would have been a great solution in a great form factor (perhaps that is one of the reasons going this route) but with the lack of support, frustration and wasted time, I cannot recommend this.

Setting this up with the Shelly ap was a breeze. I paired a couple of Shelly BLU temp/humidity sensors to monitor kitchen and garage fridges. I was surprised at the capabilities of this little server/gateway only need power to it's USB-A port to operate. It was easy to add to the optional Free Shelly Cloud app and set a temperature alarm to notify my phone.

Work well. Sync to my blu rc 4 button. Then I bought a few Shelly Gen 4 relays and that went even smoother.

Works as expected and missions accomplished in the RV. One of these BLU gateway devices combined with three (3) of the Shelly BLU HT temperature sensors (refrigerator, freezer, and coach) and a Shelly Smoke Detector, made for the perfect upgrades to my RV.

Funciona a la perfección, es muy estable y fácil de configurar. Me encanta lo bien que conecta con otros aparatos inteligentes. Una gran compra para cualquier hogar conectado.

Das Shelly Blu Gateway in Kombination mit meinem Home Assistant Green ist genau das Puzzlestück, das gefehlt hat. Die Einrichtung ging schnell und reibungslos – direkt in den Bluetooth-Proxy integriert, erkannt, eingebunden, fertig. Kein Frickeln, keine Kompromisse. Besonders genial ist, wie stabil und zuverlässig es Bluetooth-Signale von Geräten wie dem Shelly Blu Button 1 oder BLE-Temperatursensoren weiterleitet. Endlich keine Funklöcher mehr im Haus – der Gateway erweitert die Reichweite deutlich und sorgt dafür, dass alle Geräte auch wirklich dort reagieren, wo sie sollen. Das Design ist schlicht und funktional, die Stromversorgung per USB macht die Platzierung flexibel. Und weil er direkt mit Home Assistant spricht, ist er auch sofort für Automatisierungen nutzbar – ohne Cloud, ohne Umweg. Genau so muss Smart Home sein: lokal, schnell und zuverlässig.
