What's not to like about Bruce Parry? He is as engaging as any presenter and far smarter than most. Bruce throws himself into every adventure 100% in an attempt to understand the indigenous people he visits as intimately as possible. He goes through many gruesome rituals with the various tribes he stays with and in so doing he endears himself to most people. There are lots of extraordinarily funny parts to his adventures as anyone who has seen 'The Tribe' would expect. I showed Bruce's adventures and escapades to my high school students and most came to adore his daring and uniquely self-deprecating humor. He is a one-off 5-star Star. You will never see the Amazon in quite the same way again after watching this brilliant series. Why he isn't a global star God alone knows. If he was American he would be on every top chat show.

Bruce Parry spends eight months with the people of the Amazon, from the indigenous people who live in the Peruvian mountains near the river’s source to illegal gold miners in the rainforest’s heart to the people in the Amazon’s big cities and many others.As with his previous series, Tribe, he fully immerses himself in the daily lives of the people he meets and he is always impartial, allowing everyone to tell their side of the story.Although this documentary is now over ten years old, the issues it covers are still relevant today and therefore the series is still as powerful as when it was first broadcast.

Bruce Parry as always does a wonderful job following the mighty Amazon, introducing himself and us to the indigeonous peoples and spending time with them, seeing life from the perspective of tribespeople, miners, loggers, and those involved in the drug trade. We see the variety of people living by, from and off the Amazon and its tributaries.My only disappointment was that I wanted to see more of how these people lived and survived. To understand better their interaction with the river and the impact it had on their lives, but nonetheless this series is an excellent watch.

This is a fully entertaining DVD about a journey along the Amazon to meet the various tribes which live there. Absolutely fascinating and I am glad that I bought it.

I bought this DVD because I had seen the 'Tribe' series on television and never got the chance to see much of the Amazon trek whilst it was on TV. I very much enjoy Bruce's style of documentary making. All the trademark elements of the tribe series are there - the instant immersion into tribal cultures, the psychedelic experimentation with various tribal 'drugs', and the affection and warmth displayed in every episode by the tribes peoples toward our Brucy. All this without a hint of cynicism or false intentions. Refreshingly, and as in his previous series, Bruce doesn't try to appear as something he is not, and is very aware of how his perceptions and biases should be tempered in order to bring the viewer the best experience of the cultures he intends to assay. He succeeds in this brilliantly, the focus of the show firmly on the tribal cultures and issues around them, whilst all the time Bruce is continuing to maintain the humble attitude that affords the show such credibility.It is also great fun to watch and looks at the issue of maintaining tribal culture in a much broader sense to include the realism of a nation such as Brazil, which is very much a tiger economy, and thus has the issues associated with such success. It is in weighing up these weighty issues of development pitted against ancient culture, in a balanced way, that provides for the optimism that both can coexist that truly is a remarkable feature of this series.
