Q: Is this food safe? Or can it be with a cleaning? I want to use it as a meat/food smoker

I was wondering the same thing, but after some searching I would say it's NOT food safe.In the description it says that this drum has an "interior epoxy phenolic coating" and it doesn't not mention if this is a food grade barrel. So I would advise NOT to use this product to store water or food.Try ebay for 55 gallon food grade barrels. Q: Is this safe for a fire pit? I don't know if the inside coating is toxic if its burned or not..

I never thought about if inside coating is toxic or not but the reason I made this purchase is to burn brush. I used it almost everyday for 18 hours long burning tree brush. There was never any unpleasant smells. The barrel has kept up well despite being used as a fire pit. Naturally it becomes blackened from the heat.

Q: How is the drum shipped?

It shipped in a cardboard box, by ups right to the front door. It was in great shape!

Q: When do you use the lid?

I use the lid after a burn. Last thing I want is for my ashes to get wet.
